Art in my Home
84PANNONIA
The Art in my Home
The art in my home is not all old. On this page, the third in a series of three about art, I will present an eclectic mix of paintings I have acquired, beginning with some living artists who caught my eye recently.
First up is a painting entitled "Pannonia" by Csaba Markus. Csaba was born behind the Iron Curtain in Budapest, Hungary in 1953. He moved to California in 1978 where he resides today. There is something exotic about his paintings.
EVENING THOUGHTS
From Hungary to Italy
Pino (Daeni) now lives in New Jersey; and in Naples, Florida. He was born and reared in Italy and specializes in painting beautiful women. And this one is special indeed. This Pino painting was named "Evening Thoughts."
SHADOWS OF LOVE
From Italy to Ireland and Israel
I just love the colors in this painting by the only female painter I own a painting by, Sevitt Francis. Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1942, she moved to Israel in 1959 where she has lived ever since. I own two Sevitt Francis paintings and this one is titled "Shadows of Love."
VOLERE
From Israel to Poland
Tomasz Rut is from Poland but now makes his home in Hollywood, Florida. He spent considerable time in New York City, and Asheville, North Carolina as well. I own three of his paintings and they are quite sensual, if not erotic. This name of this painting is "Volere."
LE COTILLION
From Poland back to Israel
Isaac Maimon is an Israeli painter who was born in 1951. His paintings evoke the Parisian "Boulevard Culture." The title of this suite is "Le Cotillion."
CHRIST IN GETHSEMANE
An American painter from Chicago
Warner Sallman was from Chicago. He was born in 1892 and died in 1968. He was the best known artist of the 20th Century—though I wonder how many remember his name today in 2009. His painting, "The Head of Christ," is the best selling painting in the history of the world; selling over 500,000,000 copies. I have that painting, of course, but I am presenting his painting entitled "Christ in Gethsemane" because it has sentimental value for me. My Paternal Grandmother, who was a Saint and a Prophet, went straight to Heaven (without passing Go) in 1987. Every time I visited her home I saw this painting there (as well as the "Head of Christ" and "The Lord is our Shepherd" and "Christ our Pilot").
LE MOULIN de le GALETTE
Let us proceed to Paris
Renoir was a French artist who was one of the originators—and my personal favorite—of the Impressionist style of painting. He was born in 1841 and died in 1919. I present here the "Le Moulin de la Galette,", which he painted in 1876. Is not it fabulous?
GEORGE WASHINGTON CROSSING THE DELAWARE
Back to The United States
I love this painting. Look at George standing up in the boat as they traverse treacherous, icy waters with his ragtag bunch of individuals that he must mold together as a team. It is life or death, of course—for these men and for the American Revolution.
Emanuel Leutze was born in 1816 and died in 1868. He created this Painting: "George Washington Crossing the Delaware" in 1851.
George Washington is my favorite American personage. He was not only the leader of the Revolutionary War and the first President of the United States of America. What I love most about him is, that he is one of few individuals in the history of the world who declined when his citizenry wanted to make him their king.
GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING
The Mona Lisa of the North
Johannes (or Jan) Vermeer lived a short life; born in 1632 and dying in 1675. Obviously, he was an incredible painter. I own a copy of "Girl with a Pearl Earring," which I shall present to you now below.
OLD WOMAN
Giorgione of Venice
I have many more paintings in my home including exquisite copies of the "Mona Lisa" and "The Doge." But now, I will close out this hub by leaving you with one last painting from my collection—and something to think about.
Giorgione only lived to about 32 years old. People were well acquainted with death in those days. Their loved ones did not die in antiseptic hospitals. They died at home; in front of their eyes. And many died young of various diseases that were not understood. Much like cancer today.
Giorgione was born in Venice, Italy, in 1478 and died in 1510. Who knows what he might have accomplished as a painter had he lived longer; or if he had known he wouldn't. He was a great painter. Here is his painting "Old Woman." The Old Woman has a piece of paper in her hand. It says, "With Time" or "In Time." I will not explain what this means because one of the great gifts of art is to make us think and reflect about what a created piece of art from a human imagination means.

It seems I'm on tour with this hub of yours! These paintings are real heirloom! It's nice to know that they're still existing!
Beautiful art you have here James. I do not know a lot about art but these are very nice. :)
James, What an amazing collection you had gathered together. Stunning work by all represented. I'm so sorry for your loss. I particularly loved the Christ in Gethsemane by Salman. Recently I found a print of the Christ at the Gate from that era. I'll have to look at it again to check the artist's name. We grew up with this image of Jesus.
Thanks for sharing all these lovely paintings with us. Up, beautiful, awesome!
Peg
Now I know about two contemporary Polish artists, Jacek Yerka and Tomasz Rut. :) Oh, and SHARING.
What a fabulous Hub! And as much as I love art, I can't believe I had never seen it, except I guess I just try to stay current with your newer stuff. I think my favorites are Pannonia and Evening Thoughts, although they are all great. I appreciate that you have such an eclectic mix of old and new art. I will have to look up Tomasz Rut as he is Polish. Surrounding oneself with art and music makes such a difference in the quality of one's life. I love this peak at a cross-section of your collection. Quite wonderful. :)
That is a fine collection you have there.I hope you wont mind if I added you in one of my hubs. I hope someday you would get your paintings back
James, this is such a lovely collection. My favourite is the painting by Pino. It looks like something from the Impressionist painters. So beautiful. I enjoyed your art very much, and it was so nice of you to invite us to come in, and look at your walls. Your home must be very beautiful with all these pieces contained within.
i m from pakistan bt have a keen intrest in painting,, have enjoyed a lot these paintingss, bt the most i like is TOMARZ RUT 's Volere , so much emotional n showing real feelings of passionate love, i also wana see his other 2 paintings, plz can u? n i appriciate u for having a gud taste even in this scientific n meterialistic world. keep it up.
James buddy, your doing something right to have all this fine art work. What is your secret? lol It looks like a great collection pal. I always see paintings at the flee markets, but I don't know what I am looking for. I need to research it. Do have you prefer a particular name? Is it the Pino? I will have to check your other hubs to get familiar with art work. I want to be like Dave on Storage Wars, not his attitude though. Just saying, a man could do good if you know what to look for.
Very nice design, Great hub.
Hi James, as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder....these are beautiful your home must be a show place indeed. Thanks for sharing the beauty of art! Blessings!
A very lovely collection! Your home must be fascinating! :)
Great pieces of art,,, I like it so much... Thanks James. It's helpful for me personally...
I think it's time to open up your home as a gallery , some great art here, thank you for sharing.
Without a Sadequain your collection looks incomplete
You have very beautiful art here. I really love the Evening Thoughts painting, so beautiful rendering of light, and looks like much of the master works from last 2 centuries, yet is modern - just nice.
There are some very beautiful paintings here. I love le Moulin de la Galette by Renoir. I've never heard of Pino or Tomasz Rut but the paintings "Evening Thoughts" and "Volere" are amazing.
Just watched the Michael Douglas film - Wall Street Money Never Sleeps. Hunted for the painting - Goya Saturn Devouring his son. The movie really has several layers of meaning but everything points to that painting. I am not a fan of Goya, watched the movie Ghosts of Goya and was even more dismayed. The painting that Goya did is pivotal for our society as well as the movie. Goya's series of 14 paintings - in response or in celebration of the witchcraft in Spain?
Life is so beautiful to depict wars and the ugly side of human nature is showcases Goya's madness, but yet he lived during a mad time in history. Are we living in yet another mad time of history?
James, since you are a lover of history and art, would love to hear your thoughts on Goya - madman or genius simply reflecting human nature?
Hi James,
Beautiful...the hub as well as your collection of paintings..I am torn in which I can call my favorite coz they are all great paintings Evening Thoughts by Pino is so alive for me but so is Sallman,s painting. I am not only torn but also in awe and envious of their talent because I can't even sketch, no artistic talent for that matter. Thanks for sharing these paintings with us.
A very interesting and eclectic collection! I always enjoy seeing what other people like in art. My own taste runs more to the modernists but I do love Vermeer, especially his Dutch houses.
Thanks for sharing
Love and peace
Tony
James you have an amazing taste for art.
I really wonder how much did they cost you :)
Giorgione and Volere are absolutely breathtaking. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful collection, James. I don't know much about painting but it psychological meaning only :D, and your collection are wonderful. It is interesting to see how you closed the whole beautiful appearance with old woman. Hmmm...
all of them are nice, but I LOVE the first one...it is hauntingly beautiful
beautiful artwork :)
Kindred Spirit Mr. Watkins,
Outstanding!
Perhaps a Hub on the artist Warner Sallman (I called the family Saloman when I was growing up) would fit nicely with your art and religion theme.
Supposedly, Sallman's family lived near me - 2 houses back in Rockford, Illinois. I read a little on the Internet - something about the YMCA but cannot recall.
Sallman has that very famous - perhaps the most famous painting of Christ today.
Wonderful paintings! Thank you very much!
I'm always at Awh! with your Hubs, Its like being back in college, except we don't have to go research our material, You bring it to us. You'd make a great professor in one of Our Nations College. I Like this one in your excellant Collection: CHRIST IN GETHSEMANE by WARNER SALLMAN 1942.
Great hub!!! Love it..
Very beautiful pictures, what a wonderful collection you have.
What a journey! I have just been here possibly 20 or 30 minutes but i feel as though you transported me deep into unequalled wells of riches. Impressed! I am especially moved by the girl withthe golden earring...
As an art lover who can't paint a damn thing I must say that the next best thing to that is to praise others in their art. You have a great hub of fine art here. It would make a great collection on a gallery wall, as it is quite similar. Women feature a lot here. And you have impeccable taste! I did a hub about a portrait painter, he would know a lot of these artists. The Israeli artists I did not know. Very impressed!
Art, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder. You, James, have captured both. Thanks for sharing the pleasure!
woww!!!! u have a gr8 collection of artwork...thanX for sharing it :)
Evening thoughts; is fantastic ; brillant art and wonderful taste; congradulations!
Your art is beautifull. What good taste you have. Life presents so many visions in so many ways. People in their natural ways can be so stunning and magnificent in doing just simple things of life caught by the eye of the artists. God Bless You.
Hi James, I like VOLERE the most, I like sensual painting, I cant afford paintings as precious as this ones, but I am glad you shared it,
hope everyday gets better as always, Mr James,
thanks for the lines you dropped in my hub,
keep your high spirited self up,
Maita
I love Art. Well, I love the expressionism that goes with Art. Have you ever heard of Andrew Wyeth? You can't possibly own all these paintings, they would cost a fortune.. but they sure are beautiful, aren't they?
This is a very beautiful collection. A thread of sensuality runs through each painting, yes, even G.W. Crossing the Delaware and Old Woman. Thank you for sharing it here with us.
You have quite a collection! Thanks for sharing that with us, James:)You have a very good taste in Art.
What a great hub! I love art and am privilege to sit on a wonderful art board to promote art. Pino is one of my favorites! And while I don't own any Markus - that really caught my attention. And Christ's in the Garden is one of the most moving paintings! I must consider writing a hub on art - oh, my - never thought about that one! What a wonderful hub! Thank you!
I can't wait to share these! We spend a lot of time "enjoying" art in our house and many of these are ones we love. Thanks for adding such a great hub to HP.
hello james! my favorites are Evening Thoughts and Old Woman...classic!!
Wow, your art collections are priceless, beautiful and alluring. creatveone59
Very lovely paintings. I'll forward this article to my brother, who is an art historian. He'll like it.
I love that Evening Thoughts is a striking hybridization of postmodern fashion iconography and classical technique. The playfully accurate enunciation of light in that piece is absolutely stunning.
Lovely hub, sir.
Wow, what a great collection! Your home must be amazing. I really like the colors in Shadows Of Love.
James, you have a beautiful collection. Csaba was born in my home town of beautiful Budapest, I can relate to the frustrations of his childhood. All his work is beautiful, but my favorite is "La Femme De La Mystique". I enjoy all your Hubs, especially on art, thank you for sharing.
I love your choices! I only wish I had more walls! Volere, Jesus in Gethsemane, and Evening Thoughts are my favorites! They are all beautiful though. Yes, I will say it again! Keep writing, keep Hubbing!
Your paintings are beautiful. Thank you for sharing. They brought a smile to my face and touched my soul. I'm going to bookmark this hub so that when I need to feel a lift, I can watch the slideshow and marvel at such beauty. Seeing contemporary artists reminded me of when I was younger and used to visit the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition on buyer's day to purchase paintings with my parents for their collection and mine.
Oh, you have marvelous pieces at home. Wonderful!
you have more varied taste than I and seemingly a much bigger home. haha!
nice batch, I love the cotillion set. :)
