ARMANI SUITS

Giorgio Armani designs and manufactures my favorite suits for men. Armani employs 4700 people in 13 factories worldwide; and has 300 stores in 36 countries. The only place one can buy an Armani suit in Orlando is Saks Fifth Avenue.

Giorgio Armani was born in Italy in 1934. He commenced designing men's clothes in 1961. Giorgio Armani started his own eponymous company in 1975 (with only $10,000 of capital) in Milan, Italy. For 25 years he worked hard to create and produce the most beautiful, stylish suits in the world for men. Armani has amassed a personal fortune of $5B. Giorgio Armani Company has annual sales of nearly $2B today.

Armani initially wanted to be a doctor and attended medical school for two years. He was a professional photographer before deciding to join the Italian military. When his service ended, he was hired as a window dresser at an upscale department store. It was here that he decided he wanted to design menswear.

Today, Armani is known as the father of Italian fashion. His men's suits are the hallmark of sophistication, elegance and glamour. All Armani garments are well known for their clean lines, wonderful silhouettes, exquisite fabrics, precise cuts, and terrific tailoring. The men's suits not only look great, they are the most comfortable I have ever worn. Armani suits produce broad shoulders and a narrow waist because of the flattering design.

Armani also sells lines of women's apparel, accessories, cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry, eyewear, watches and home furnishings. I use Armani Gio cologne and deodorant. The company operates cafes, bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. The next step is luxury hotels planned for Milan, Paris, London, New York, Dubai, Shanghai and Tokyo.

To select the perfect suit, attention must be paid to several variables. It is essential that you find a knowledgeable sales professional for a purchase of this permanence. A fine suit should last a lifetime. One must consider color, fabric, style, and fit. A fine man's suit projects confident masculinity. To complete the look of a professional gentleman, you will need a quality cotton shirt, silk tie, silk pocket square, cuff links, and shoes (Ferragamo are the best).

The best men's suits feature neat and firm stitching, and high quality buttons made of horn, pearl or bone. Lapels should be about three inches wide. A besom pocket is recommended, and a lower back vent is a must. The sleeves should end at the wrist bone, leaving perhaps 1/2 inch of shirt sleeve showing (one must display those pretty cuff links). Single breasted suits are my preference though I have one double breasted Armani for special occasions. And a tuxedo is handy for formal events (with patent leather lace-up shoes, naturally).

The suit pants should drape smoothly and float over your legs. I most often opt for a single pleat, though a double pleat is nice for a more casual setting. I prefer a full break right at the top of my shoe, and a 1 1/2" cuff.

I hired a professional model to demonstrate the Armani look, which I will present now in these photographs.  (I have also published a Hub about Salvatore Ferragamo.)

The suits are nice, but where does Mrs. Watkins Shop?

James A Watkins 2 years ago

jiberish— St. John mostly. Thank you for being my first viewer!

jiberish 2 years ago

I'm even more impressed!

ftgfmom 2 years ago

You never cease to amaze me. I love this hub. The professionals you hired were awesome. :)

SimeyC 2 years ago

Nice suits!!! shame I don't wear one any more!

Catherine R 2 years ago

Very nice suits. Who ever would have thought that he could have been a doctor and deprived the fashion world of his great influence . Or come to think of it maybe he would have discovered some great cure for something had he stuck with medicine! We will never know!

msorensson 2 years ago

Fabulous piece, James, Bravo!!

Now please write about Salvatore Ferragamo.

no body 2 years ago

nice looking couple. You hang out with the big-wigs. Great hub brother.

Moonchild60 2 years ago

James - I love Armani and also like msorensson, I love Ferragamo as well. My two favorites!! That model guy looks a lot like Stephen Colbert.

IslandVoice 2 years ago

You make Armani and Nancy proud for sure! Love the photos, your friends, and now i know who to call should i want to meet presidentiable Jeb B! This is a welcome break from hub's political arena! Until you come up with your next controversy. Mahalo! (That's thanks in Hawaii)

Vladimir Uhri 2 years ago

Hi James, nice man need nice suite. Great.

eovery 2 years ago

You looked great behind the desk in oval office.

Keep on hubbing!

GPAGE 2 years ago

Ahhhh. Nothing like a man in a nice suit! GREAT hub and very entertaining!

LOVE the models, especially the one with the sombrero.......G

Waren E 2 years ago

This is a really Cool hub James!:)

Kebennett1 2 years ago

An Armani Man, Why am I not surprised! Those FERRAGAMO'S are gorgeous! Armani is very impressive, both the man and his line of suits, and tuxedo's. His empire is fantastic, from cologne to cafe every thing he touches is golden! His hotels will no doubt be grand scale!

Why did you not model? Were you behind the camera?

Fantastic Hub as always. Love pictures. Very creative!

James A Watkins 2 years ago

jiberish— She is one sharp dressed lady, to be sure. Thanks for noticing. I appreciate the visitation, too. :)

James A Watkins 2 years ago

ftgfmom— Thank you! I'm grinnin'! :D

I thought the models did a fine job, too. I appreciate you swinging by.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

SimeyC— Thank you! I rarely do either anymore. Not much use to wear a suit while Hubbin'. :) In fact, I am in sweat pants and a Cubs sweatshirt. Not too classy. But comfy.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Catherine R— We never know about the path not taken. But we do know Giorgio is gifted at designing and overseeing the proper manufacture of suits. I appreciate you for coming to see me. :)

James A Watkins 2 years ago

msorensson— I thank you so much for your warm words. You know, I hadn't thought of it, but you have given me an idea. Ferragamo should have a Hub. I love his belts and wallets, too. The best! I never thought I would end up in the fashion column! :-)

James A Watkins 2 years ago

no body— We were very involved in politics. :) My wife is now disabled so I am not so involved anymore. Not to mention my livelihood is gone! :-)

But, that's OK. I'm happy. And I'm glad you came by and left your nice remarks.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Moonchild60— He's almost as funny as Colbert, too! :)

I am pleased you like the clothes. I know you are a woman of refined tastes up there by The City and all. Thank you for checking in and saying so. It is always a pleasure to see your (now) smiling face.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

IslandVoice— You made me laugh! My next controversy. I never knew orthodoxy would become controversial! But it is.

I will admit here: I love Jeb! He was my governor and most everybody I know thinks he did a great job. Let me know what you need and I'll have my people call his people.

You are such a treasure. Thank you for your ongoing loveliness.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Vladimir,

I'm with you. Thank you for being you, Brother. I love ya.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

eovery— Let me tell you: that was a thrill. I was ready to make policy—but I only had five minutes so I couldn't get much done.

Thanks for visiting and commenting.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

GPAGE— I liked him, too. I've been trying to get in touch with him.

It's a pleasure to hear from you. You are precious! Thank you. :D

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Waren E— Thank you very much! I appreciate you saying so.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Kebennett1— Aren't those shoes beautiful!? I have several pair—all that exact same model. A couple are Cordovan. I wear a size 13 and these shoes look great even in a big size. Giorgio certainly has the golden touch, as you say.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I hope you are well. God Bless You!

Mr Watkins in his designer clothes ... always surrounded by ladies! Great! :)

James A Watkins 2 years ago

quicksand— I can't help it! The ladies swarm around me like bugs to a night light! :)

Thanks, friend, for visiting and commenting.

James...They say clothes make the man...In your case, I think the man was already made, and enhanced by your lovely wife...I wish you and her well with whatever the future may hold...Entertaining Hub from a classy guy...Thanks, Larry

Tom Whitworth 2 years ago

James I enjoy your sense of fashion however I fear my own sense of fashion does't expand far beyond Levi Strauss, or his cheaper imitators.

LOL :)

ArchDynamics 2 years ago

King James:

Another great hub, as always. But, just remember - no matter how well you dress or how good you look ... you never look better than when you have the beautiful Ms. Nancy at your side as your ultimate fashion 'accessory'!

divinemercylover1 2 years ago

Excellent writing James! Very nice photography. One thing that really caught my attention about Armani that you mentioned is that he began his endeavors with a very small capital amount. It does me a lot of good to see someone rise to the top from the bottom. I hope and pray your endeavors are met with much success as well. Kindest Regards. John, also known as SP

James A Watkins 2 years ago

maven101— She has enhanced me alright. The first time I ever saw an Armani suit was maybe 20 years ago on television during the NBA playoffs. The coach of the New York Knicks (I think it was), Pat Riley, was strutting up and down the sidelines in a gleaming suit and I thought to myself, "Wow! Look at that suit!" It really stood out.

I never cared much about clothes as a musician and did not own a single suit or tie at the time. One of the announcers then said, "There's Pat Riley in his Armani suit." I thought to myself, "One of the days, I'd like to have one of those."

Thanks, Larry, and you are welcome.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Tom Whitworth— No worries. I wear jeans every other day, myself. Thank you for coming in and leaving word.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

ArchDynamics— Yes, I learned early on to "Accessorize" as you say. That part I had figured out by the 5th grade. I just didn't have any clothes! :D

Thank you, Brother, for coming by and leaving your ever cheerful message.

The King James Version

James A Watkins 2 years ago

divinemercylover1— It is amazing how many huge fortunes are made with very little capital—in the free market world, of course. He wouldn't have made any money in the USSR, Cuba or North Korea—the darlings of U.S. Leftists. :)

My endeavors are right here on Hub Pages. :-) So, thank you for your support. I've enjoyed your Hubs, too.

Paradise7 2 years ago

James, maybe you should see CatherineR's hub on Miniature Earth. Get some perspective, my dear, on what's important. You do make good hubs and this was interesting, as always, BUT...I'd be ashamed to have $5 billion knowing there are people with no food, no water...You're a Christian, too, so you must know better than to rack up treasures on earth and to pay too much attention to temporal things. God bless, hope you have a change of heart.

Peggy W 2 years ago

HaHaHa, James...you got politics into this without saying a word. Saw our Texas Senator in one of those lineups as well. Interesting history of Giorgio Armani and the paths he took getting to his design empire.

R Burow 2 years ago

James,

We think of those who are successful as always having been succesful. A great lesson in perseverence. Fine hub!

Now, how about writing a hub surrounding the events and people posted in the above pictures:)

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Paradise7— I will go and view Catherine's Hub. Thank you for that tip. I pray I have not lost perspective. The reason we were active politically was to fight for Pro-Life, traditional marriage and school vouchers through the government. I think we made some difference though in the end were disappointed.

These events have dress codes; and a sharp dressed man is more readily heard at a policy meeting than a shabbily dressed one. I know that is not right, that Jesus wore a simply garment and sandals. But as Paul said,

1 Corinthians 9:20 "To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings."

As far as Armani being worth $5B—he earned it, he didn't steal it. I don't know what he does with it. If he is a Christian, he should be using it to feed the poor and give drink to the thirsty. I have no knowledge of his level of charitable giving.

I have given away 20% of my earnings in the past ten years for Christian causes and charities that make this a better world, from jail and prison ministry, Christian schools I have no children in, food and clothing charities, housing for the homeless, missionaries, well drilling in Africa, micro-funding in the third world, Pro-Life counseling centers, inner-city programs for kids, men's outreach groups, Bible translators and distributors, etc. Maybe I shouldn't have said that since my giving should be in secret but I am not saying it to impress you—the Glory is God's—but to give you a better idea where my heart as been. And I have personally assisted financially every person who has asked me for help until all my funds were gone—which they are.

You are absolutely right to question this Hub. We must lay up our treasures where moth and rust do not corrupt. There are many ways to help people, and this is one path among many I felt called to choose. If I chose wrongly I will pray for forgiveness. Thank you for the admonishment. Sincere reproof is always welcome to me. Lord knows, I need some.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Peggy W— John Cornyn, yes. I have had several interesting conversations with him in Washington and in Austin. Very sharp and very personable guy he is. Had a chat with your Governor in Austin, too.

I suppose there was a little inside joke here. I'm glad you got it, dear. Just having a little fun. Thank you for your comments.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

R Burow— You have given me an idea. Maybe I will do a Hub about that. I have a lot more photos. These were framed in my office so the easiest ones to grab and scan.

Thank you and you are welcome.

advisor4qb 2 years ago

Your wife is so petite and pretty. And I love the light (pink?) long sleeved suit she was wearing in the picture towards the end. You make a nice couple!

jiberish 2 years ago

James you can't seem to write a Hub without being vilified for something. Are we at the point where capitalism has become a source of embarrassement, and where you have to 'change your ways' if you are fortunate enough to have more that other? Wow...you have the patience of a saint!

ftgfmom 2 years ago

Amen, jiberish, I'd say James is blessed going in and blessed going out. :)

I will have to say - Wow! I enjoyed the pictures. You did Armani proud!

James, you are really a multifaceted artist and I can't even predict what you will write of next. You never cease to amaze me with the depth and breadth of your knowledge.

Great going!

James A Watkins 2 years ago

advisor4qb— Thank you very much. Yea, she's about 5'2" 100 lbs. so she is a dainty thing. Unfortunately she is not well. But I appreciate your kind comments. I'll be sure to tell her what you wrote. :)

James A Watkins 2 years ago

jiberish— Well, thank you counselor for the fine defense! :D

My ways have been changed for me. Maybe God's trying to tell me something. I appreciate your graciousness. You are a fine lady. I can tell that.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

ftgfmom— Thank you, dear. I appreciate the support. Believe me when I tell you: my blessings have been manifold. And I am eternally grateful.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

jamison1977— I see from your profile page, you are into quality things. One benefit of quality apparel is that is lasts longer, so it is not that much more expensive "per wear" than some other garments. Anyway, Welcome to the Hub Pages Community.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

jill of alltrades— Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat: Presto!

Wrong hat!

Your words brought a big smile to my face. Thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement.

James, Armani is in a class all by itself! As a designer I can imagine how great he must feel with this accomplishment.

James A Watkins,

Very Nice! Armani is exquisite! Love the St. John's as well. They are both like fine wearable art! You two make a lovely couple. I see you have shared many great times together!

Blessings

James A Watkins 2 years ago

DeBorrah,

Aren't you sweet!

We have had some great times alright. I agree with you that Armani & St. John make wearable art. I hadn't thought of it that way. You have an eloquent way with words. Thanks for commenting.

Faithfully Yours,

James

Interesting info, very, very clever model. Will pray for your dear wife. I praise God for the positions He had you in as a believer--and for providing the suits that suited the occasions! Looking forward to hearing about His continued work in your lives.

Oh yes, tell your wife that I love the white hat/suit!

What did I just say in your Ferragamo hub? When it comes to fashion you really know what you are taking about, so will be great to see more of those hubs.

Still don't know how to get on your fun list, but I will try to figure it out.

James A Watkins 2 years ago

Gabriella D'Anton— You said it. More fashion Hubs. Thank you for your kind compliments. I think I just saw your name on my fan list. I appreciate your interest.

What a surprise! I thought you were either a teacher or a tourist guide, and now what? Are you in the fashion business? Don't tell me, because in time I'll find out anyway.

I love fashion, but not for men. Men that are too properly dressed look much too married. That's a fact. Here is proof:

A young woman lived in Madrid with her husband who was a sculptor, and he one day after modelling for some time went to the bar downstairs to have chocolate con churros. When he came back up, he had to share the lift with a neighbour lady. In the lift the lady studied his shirt and said with a smile: "Is your wife on a vacation?"

James A Watkins 2 years ago

blue parrot— Surprise, surprise, surprise! :D

I might be an amateur teacher. :-)

That's a funny story you told. Thank you for that and for this visitation.

Armani use to be my favorite designer years ago. Although I don't dress up anymore like I use to. These days, comfort seems to be the priority.

Great hub!

James A Watkins 12 months ago

John Sarkis— I am with you as far as comfortable dress goes. Armani surely produces beautiful clothes of extraordinary quality.

Thank you for checking out this Hub. I appreciate the compliment!
