72PARTITION AMERICA
I was reading about the 1947 partitioning of India (Hindu) and Pakistan (Muslim) the other day and it got me to thinking: It may be time to partition the United States into two nations—without the violence that accompanied the 1947 event. I am not talking about revolution; I am talking about an amicable going our separate ways; perhaps similar to the split of the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993.
I propose we lay out for the American People what each country will be like and have state referendums to allow the citizens of each of the 50 states the Freedom to decide for themselves the type of society in which they want to live. There may be some people who decide to move to a state in the other side. This should be made as comfortable as possible. I propose the two new nations be best of friends, with free trade and travel, as the US is today with Canada. The two new nations can decide what to name themselves. For now, let's just go with America and Amerika, to keep it simple.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
The District of Columbia is a special case. My solution is to have the section of the city that houses the government buildings be part of America (Virginia) because the buildings and monuments there are covered with religious and patriotic symbolism.
The residential areas should become part of Amerika (Maryland), since they are the most liberal community in the United States. If I were Amerika, I would build a new capital city in San Francisco, since the Left Coast and that particular city are the vanguard of the Progressive Movement.
RED STATES
I am going to guess Amerika will include the cultural and economic powerhouses of New York (Wall Street) and California (the film industry), as well as the manufacturing centers of Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Hawaii will surely be in Amerika (19 states but half of the Electoral College).
This gives Amerika control of the Pacific Ocean, the Great Lakes, and equal access to the Atlantic—as well as roughly half the population of what is now the United States. Unless the Left is intent on foisting their ideas upon every soul on this continent, surely this is a fair settlement for them.
THE NEW LAND OF THE FREE
I think America will include Texas, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Missouri, Colorado, Alabama, South Carolina, Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Iowa, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, West Virginia, Nebraska, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, and Wyoming.
If the referendum falls this way, America will have the Gulf of Mexico and the port of New Orleans on the Mississippi River, access to the Great Lakes, and plenty of ports on the Atlantic. Some of these states are not a sure thing for America.
It is possible the citizens of OH, MO, NM, NV, IA, and even FL may choose Amerika. If they do, so be it. Only in the case of NM would this present a geographical problem, as it would be isolated.
FOUNDING DOCUMENTS
I propose that America retain its Constitution and other founding documents; Flag; Motto; National Anthem and other national songs; Pledge of Allegiance; and money. After all, the Declaration of Independence says our rights come from a Creator and those in Amerika do not believe that, believing their rights come from men.
Amerika should look to the French Revolution for its founding documents. Amerikans view our flag as a symbol of oppression, so surely they don't want it.
Our Motto represents a melting pot whereas Amerika wants a mosaic. Our national songs are full of reference to God so I don't see why Amerika would have any interest in them. Our money features those horrid "dead white males" we hear so much vitriol about. Amerika will mint new money with Marx, Stalin, Lenin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, and Castro portrayed on it. Well . . . they'll have to get a couple women in their somehow—maybe Margaret Sanger. Amerika will want their founding documents to be approved by Internationalists including the United Nations. They can sign the Kyoto Treaty and bow to International Law and Courts.
America will not fund the United Nations nor provide foreign aid through the government; and will remain a sovereign nation.
MILITARY
America will gladly accept the entire military, all nuclear weapons, the Central Intelligence Agency—and ROTC will be welcomed everywhere. Then Amerika will have four less things to protest.
Amerika will be so beloved by the world they won't need a military. Except for an internal military, of course, equal in power to our external military. But, if Amerika is attacked, we will protect them—just as we would Canada today.
GUNS
Guns and hunting will be banned in Amerika. Anybody with a gun will be a criminal.
In America, everybody will be armed—unless they don't want to be.
MARRIAGE
In Amerika marriage will either be non-existent, or it will be open to all ages and combinations possible under the sun including homosexuals, polygamy, polyamory, etc.
In America, only traditional marriage will be allowed and no-fault divorce laws will be scrapped. The family will be the ruling establishment in America, not the government. Family Court will be dissolved. Divorce will be discouraged and fathers will be guaranteed involvement with their children if they are expected to pay child support. Procreation will be strongly encouraged through tax benefits for those who bless the world with our next generation. The more children per family the better.
In Amerika, I expect there will be few living children.
NUCLEAR POWER
Regarding energy, America will immediately commence a major building of nuclear power plants. And if we have oil and gas under the ground, we will go get it.
All of this will be banned in Amerika. There will be Cap and Trade in the latter but not in the former.
RELIGION AND HOLIDAYS
In America, our religious heritage will honored and taught—that our country was discovered, explored, settled and the United States founded by Christians. Slavery was ended by Christians. Our founding documents were written by Christians. Our Founding Fathers were Christians.
We will have official Holidays (the word means Holy Days) called Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, Hanukkah, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day. Crèches, the Ten Commandments, the Bible, saying Merry Christmas, singing Christmas Carols, benedictions, and prayer will be welcome—but not required—throughout our society including in public schools, football games and government property.
All of this will be strictly prohibited in Amerika. Amerika will have Labor Day, May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Kwanza, and Ramadan.
America will encourage all Christian Churches to relocate to inside its new borders; and provide Christian chaplains for the military, government and prisons.
Amerika will be Atheist except for a smattering of Episcopalians and other main line churches—providing they do not believe the Bible—plus a few Wiccans, Buddhists, Islamists, Scientologists, and New Age Gnostics. They will however support Mosques—provided they teach Sharia Law, the overthrow of America and hatred for Jews.
IMMIGRATION AND LANGUAGE
In Amerika there will be open borders. Anybody in the world can come and live there; and immediately receive free social services including shelter, food, clothing, education and medical care—all provided by the government. Simply by crossing its border, one automatically becomes a citizen of Amerika, the most compassionate country in the world.
In America, overstaying one's Visa or sneaking across the border will result in jail time followed by deportment. We will seek legal immigrants, and temporary work Visas will be issued, only if we determine a person has something to offer America that we need and want. Anyone born in America of non-citizen parents will no longer become an automatic citizen. English will be the official language of America and all government business and voting will be conducted only in English.
In Amerika, voting, government business, and all public documents will be available in every language on Earth from Abron to Zulu.
MERITOCRACY
Homosexuals, people of color, and women (i.e., everybody except white men) will be given preference and affirmative action in Amerika until every profession is represented exactly as the percentages of the general population—including brain and heart surgeons but not including professional sports. All people except white men will also be protected against "hate crimes" and offensive speech.
In America, it will be assumed that every murder or aggravated assault is hateful in and of itself; and all victims or criminals will be considered equally offended or offensive. There will be free speech. There will be no preference for jobs or education. It will be a colorblind society and a complete meritocracy.
ABORTION
Abortion will be illegal within the borders of America. No one will stop its women from going to Amerika to kill their babies but none of their blood will be spilled on the soil of America itself. In other words, the abortion prohibition will be against doctors, clinics and hospitals—not the women who are pregnant. Planned Parenthood will be banned in America.
In Amerika sex education including the joys of homosexuality (and promiscuity) will be taught starting in preschool. Condoms, birth control pills and abortion will all be provided by the government for any person of any age.
There will be no public school sex education or distribution of pregnancy prevention to children in America. The parents of children will have to teach them what they want them to know about such issues and help them acquire birth control if they want to.
Pornography will be available in public places such as libraries and mall kiosks in Amerika; in America it will be tightly controlled to prevent access by anyone under 18.
CENSUS AND VOTING
In America, when we take a census anybody who hides from being counted simply won't count.
In Amerika, we will count as many minorities as we can, living and dead, and double it for good measure to make sure they are "represented." In Amerika, ACORN, with help from the Black Panthers, will take charge of the election process and people can vote as often as they like—and be paid for it, too!
In America, absolute proof of citizenship will be required at the polling place and anybody who can't read English or figure out how to use a ballot written at the 3rd grade level just won't count. What could they possibly know about politics?
UNIONS
There will be no unions in America. The economy and business will be deregulated as much as possible. There will be no corporate income taxes. Zero. Private Property, Private Enterprise, and the Free Market will be just that: Free and Private. There will be no Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Government will stay out of the real estate business.
In Amerika, everyone will belong to the national union, which will set all wages from CEOs to fruit pickers. The government shall own and central plan all manufacturing and production of goods, services and food—and decide who gets it and at what price. The government will own all property. There will be no need for private property or business. Every citizen should get an equal share of everything regardless of their achievement, training, schooling, innovation, production, invention, or if they do anything valuable at all.
MEDIA
In America the media will be completely free, as will be the internet.
In Amerika, the internet will be monitored by the government to keep track of what you are up to—except pornography. The government will control all media. If you speak out against any government policy, you will receive an email telling you what the proper thoughts are. Individuals will be punished for saying or thinking the wrong words or thoughts by the Politically Correctness Board. Sensitivity training camp will be the first step but if that doesn't work—no income for you. Protest that and well—gulags are already set up by the internal army.
MANDATORY VOLUNTEERING
All adults in Amerika will be required to volunteer for one year of community service,the purpose of which is to indoctrinate what you should think about sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, ethnic biases. You will properly absorb identity politics and victimization. The Boy Scouts will be replaced by the NAMBLA (popular liberal group the "North American Man Boy Love Association") Scouts.
America will support the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts; and churches will provide a myriad of opportunities to volunteer domestically or serve abroad in missionary work.
QUARANTINE
In Amerika the government shall have the right to barge into your house at any hour and inject you and your family with any vaccine they see fit, and/or quarantine you for any disease except AIDS/HIV because they aren't contagious.
In America you can choose your own vaccines and if we ever quarantine anybody, we'll start with those with AIDS and HIV (they can agree to emigrate to Amerika, however, if they prefer that).
BUREAUCRACY
Amerika will retain the Internal Revenue Service and the entire federal bureaucracy.
In America, any bureaucracies will be at the State level, where the States will have all rights according to the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. Agriculture will be accorded absolute freedom to grow whatever they want. There will be no National Labor Relations Board or EEOC. There will be no Income Tax as the 16th Amendment will be repealed. A Consumption (Sales) Tax will provide all the revenue the government needs in America. The Supreme Court in America will not ever make a new law but only apply existing law.
In Amerika the new top court will be the ACLU—an organization banned from America for subversive activities stretching back 90 years. Amerika's affairs will be run by semi-secret unelected czars, accountable only to the Supreme Leader. Congress will vet and approve any appointees to the government in America to ensure they are patriots and not Communist revolutionaries.
In America, politicians will not receive lifelong pensions or health insurance; and government workers will not be eligible for any benefits not available to everyone—with the exception of current and former military service personnel. Politicians will be citizens who return to their private life after their service to their country—which will be limited. There will be no pork in legislation. Any item in the budget will be voted on publicly. Lobbying will be banned.
CRADLE TO GRAVE GOVERNMENT TEET
In Amerika every citizen will be cared for by the government from the cradle to the grave—in fact the government will decide if there is a cradle and when there is a grave. The government will own all the hospitals and clinics and all doctors and nurses will be its employees. Private insurance and medical care will be banned. Organ donation shall be mandatory and euthanasia encouraged.
In America, tort reform will drastically reduce litigation and the size of awards and mostly—the fees of the attorneys involved. Dozens of insurance companies will compete across state lines, much like car, home and life insurance. Insurance companies will not be allowed to physically examine their clients nor see their medical records. Preexisting conditions become part of the shared risk. Rates may only be different for the difference in the age of the person when they first sign up—then it is fixed for life (Exactly the way life insurance works today).
Insurance will be for disease and injuries. Routine medical care and minor problems will be settled between the doctor and the patient regarding compensation. Christian Charities will set up clinics for the destitute—they invented hospitals 2000 years ago in Antioch, Syria. Medicare and Medicaid will be privatized to Visa/MasterCard in America to save $45B a year in fraudulent claims. The government will not have any involvement in doctors, nurses and hospitals. The government will go out of the charity business in America, turning it over to churches—except for Social Security.
The National Endowment for the Arts will not exist in America. In Amerika, it will create government propaganda for the Supreme Leader.
EDUCATION
Lastly we turn to education. In America there will be no Teacher's Union. Every local school will hire and fire teachers as they please. Also, any child may have his education at a public—or at a Catholic, Protestant or Jewish—school free of charge with vouchers. The schools will not teach self-esteem. They will teach that one becomes esteemed by doing something worthwhile. Schools will issue grades, e.g., ABCDE. Dodge ball will make a comeback.
Students will be taught the truth about how blessed they are to be Americans. They will be taught the truth, that the Great American Experiment was unprecedented in human history and produced the greatest nation ever—and the most Free People ever. They will be taught about the Founding Fathers, our founding documents, about how many people America has saved from annihilation and starvation around the world; how Americans give more private charity than all the other people in the world combined.
They will be taught the truth that different societies and cultures have contributed in vastly differing degrees to human achievement, civilization, comfort, technology, medicine, government, education, and law. They will be taught that there is such a thing as an Objective Truth. They will be taught civics and how Capitalism produced the modern world of abundance. They will be taught that they are the Image of God walking on Earth and so is everyone around you, so be careful how you treat other people.
If you crack open your books, use your library, study hard, go to the highest educational level you can master, learn a skill or trade, invent or innovate something that benefits mankind—every one of you can be all you want to be. It is your responsibility to make something out of yourselves. Universities in America will require the Classical Western Canon be taught to all students. And the faculty will be diverse—50% Conservative professors.
In Amerika, the kids will be taught that white men have stomped on the necks of the world for centuries—even though, mysteriously, all cultures and societies were equal—and that the minority kids should have chips on their shoulders as big as boulders and the white kids should be ashamed of themselves just for being born with white skin.
The children will be told that God is a superstitious myth and they are all apes with thumbs. Their history books will feature a monstrous, oppressive, Imperialist America (written by Bill Ayres) and present Capitalism as the bane of human life. Collectivism is the greatest idea ever conceived. Don't worry about achieving anything. No matter how you apply yourself—or don't—it will make no difference in your life. You'll still get the same government check, food, house, and medical care.
Amerika will also have state supported Madrasahs. In Amerika, the universities will not teach the Western Canon. But they will teach Atheism, transgender studies, racial politics, Marxism, Relativism, multi-culturalism, diversity, deconstructionism, feminism, sexism, and to hate everything for which America stands. Americans will see this. But they will still love Amerikans anyway.

ahbless— I certainly agree with you that "We need help from God," not only to overcome selfishness and greed but to overcome the sin that has blanketed our land. There is much covetousness and envy in America today, as well as the glorification of every kind of licentiousness and perversion.

Some things sound so simple and easy to implement and that's the major problem all over the world. People have issues to deal with and no matter what idea you come up with, it will be ruined. Look at America. There is no place like it in the world. Opportunity has been provided, but not everyone has been given a chance to participate in that opportunity. The people of this world past, present and future have had astounding opportunities. Do some research of history and you will find great accomplishments of various societies and cultures, but where are they today? We need more than just a great idea. We need help from God to overcome our own selfishness and greed.

Great, great hub! From some of the responses it's pretty obvious why partitioning is even a thought. Why can't we all get along? Because special and spoiled interest groups have been allowed to trample everyone's rights but their own. We've traded our morals, ethics and common sense so that we can have our own way. We do things because we can-never thinking about whether we should. "More!" is the battle cry now, we never have enough. We turn a blind eye to the poor, homeless and hungry in this country. We're stupid enough to believe everything we hear on t.v., or read in the newspapers without thinking for ourselves. Heck, we even believe the politician's who could care less about any of us. Because we don't have time to be bothered, we've said "OK" to any and every thing. But the pill that's so hard to swallow is that we've pretty much done it to ourselves. We had warnings about where we were headed from the very beginning, yet chose to ignore them. So I ask, What are we going to do, America? Probably nothing-maintain the status-quo.

I agree with most all that you wrote about and would be proud to be a citizen in our beloved America. I live in Rural California and we are almost entirely Conservative. We are the hard working farmers and orchard growers that provide food for most of the U.S. and the World as a whole. I would like to hear your views on the possibility of re-visiting the separation of California into Northern CA. vs. Southern CA. or 3 parts such as the addition to Central CA. to the mix or as another view Coastal CA vs. Inner CA. or some other such name.
Most of the Liberals are in the large cities,IE. 'Los Angeles Area', 'San Francisco Bay Area' and other coastal communities have either turned 'gay' and then turned liberal or were invaded by them and then turned liberal. They have been and are infringing their views on the original Californians that were originally here and were Conservative.
I think you get my point. We have worked hard to make California a great State and a good State to live in and we are sickened by what it has turned into.
I have two daughters and one daughter lives here in CA. and one in Oklahoma. I would have to move to OK. or to Texas where I know my gun rights would definately be intact as our Constitution guarantees. But you see the predicament we Conservative Californians have. I'm intrigued and am definitely behind you if you want to pursue this further.

Real Freedom- I did say the federal bureaucracy would not exist in America. Of course, there would be limited state bureaucracies, which would be financed by the state sales tax. The state sales tax would be the only tax. Obviously, a portion would have to be remitted to the feds to pay for the armed forces and the limited functions of the central government, which will be confined to those listed in the Constitution.
The main beef with health insurance companies is that they will not insure anyone who is seriously ill. Everybody needs insurance for catastrophic illness. I am about as far from a Collectivist as there is but that doesn't mean I have no heart.
I wish Social Security didn't exist but it does and it is the one program Americans, by huge numbers, don't want to give up above all others. In a self-governing nation, I think the People can have a Social Security Program if they want but only for old people who have paid in for years.
What a bunch of rubbish from a phoney "conservative" if ever I've seen one. If you truly cared about freedom, your America wouldn't have such idiotic ideas as:

If you really cared about economic freedom, you'd abolish the income tax and replace it with nothing. If we just limit the government to its constitutional functions, we can fund it with just excise taxes and tariffs already collected instead of replacing one direct tax with another.
"Insurance companies will not be allowed to physically examine their clients nor see their medical records." This is little more than a collectivist idea disguised as conservatism. If we were allowed to negotiate everything with health care providers, costs would come down. But you're clearly too stupid to understand that.
"The government will go out of the charity business in America, turning it over to churches—except for Social Security." Why should the government still provide free money to people who don't want to work? If you haven't saved up enough money to retire well then there's a real good way to earn it.
Try again, but next time be more honest.

But perhaps its needs are best served by the welfare state. It seems so anyway. You do have a fine idea though. And I can see that the western part of the state is far more conservative. Interesting. This is an eye opener, a message. I see a message that says, Good values, good things, life, God, and ethics are very important. Some people want to live by them and some could care less. This hub is not for everyone, but neither is Heaven either. I love to read my Bible. I never understand it all, but God wants certain things the way God wants them. The way I see it God made rules that I would like to try to live by. The seperation of Church and state also belongs in Amerika too. God Bless You.

The solution that you propose would fail, because the problem is the constitution. The constitution has been warped and morphed and changed for those who didn't like the original constitution.

It may be tribalism. In Israel they have many parties and must rule through coalitions. I don't know if that is better or worse. Certain people have certainly worked hard for tribalism in America through the assertion of identity politics—segmenting folks who then push for their own interests, especially through class envy and victimology.
Liberalism, in its true sense, is good. Radical Liberalism bad.

I have been thinking about political parties in America. I am beginning to think political parties are an example of tribalism. The tribal instinct seems almost universal in primitive societies. It could be in our DNA. If this is so partition may be the only solution without killing off rival tribe.

There has been next to no discussion about his desire stated during the campaign of creating a new internal police force rivaling the FBI. I don't believe the military would fire on our citizens at the behest of radical liberals because the military is a conservative organization. I think Obama knows this; that's why he wants a new Internal Military "as powerful as our current external military." Shocking how little this has been talked about since he said it.
Thanks James, but I fear you will only encourage my admittedly sophomoric attempts at satire. While commentary strives to be truth on the march, I like to think of well done satire as truth dancing. They both lead to the same place but one is much more fun.
Given that we have to face some grave truths about the direction of our beloved country is heading, I feel it is important to add a little levity to lighten the darkness and not succumb to despair.

James:---Very interesting Hub! One can almost sense some sort of partitioning taking on a life of its own these days. For instance, it will be recalled that some months ago the Governor of Texas pointed out the treaty obligations made by the United States Government to the Republic of Texas in 1845 concerning Texas' sovereignty. Also, the vote will be recalled by the Oklahoma legislature concerning that state's sovereignty. You envision a partitioning into two countries. It seems to me that a partitioning could divide the states into possibly six or so autonomous regions united into some sort of confederation or commonwealth. The United States has always had regional differences and always will have them. These differences germinated during colonial times. Oddly enough, I can envision a partitioning of the country along roughly the borders of the major collegiate athletic conferences. Of course, there would be some variances. Three things have always united the states in this country into regions and they are (1) common beliefs about defense (2) common economies and (3) common politics. One can envision a partitioning of the regions being peaceful as long as the common people's representatives are in charge. It would turn violent, however, if the federal government sought to snuff out dissent. Of course, that too would depend on if the armed services obeyed orders or not to fire weapons on the populace.

Amerika World's Fair would in fact be a throwback to Freak Shows of Barnum & Bailey. Americans could go see the freaks and come back home before nightfall. Honestly, with their love of sodomy and abortion, as well as astronomical rates of sexual transmitted diseases of all stripes, I think Amerika would simply die eventually, and proceed into the bowels of hell. Another poster above had the wisdom to note that Amerika will be a great mission field. And I'll add, probably as hostile to missionaries as is China, at the least.

I just wandered in and read this very accurate blog. Very funny ,yet very sad as it has really come down to this.
One suggestion I could make would be a permanent Worlds Fair Amerika where visitors could go for daytrips to see the best Amerika culture can provide.This is in recognition of a strange impulse of human nature to stare at a car wreck as we drive by if assistance is not needed. Amerika World would satisfy that unsettling urge in American citizens similar to going to see the latest horror film. Also it could be a useful training experience to "at risk" children who may be tempted to "the dark side".
Naturally it would have to be a diluted experience as we dont want the little tykes exposed to "real" drive-by shootings, sexual predators, drug addicts and other "alternative lifestyles".
AmeriKa reidents would also be free to visit any County Fair in America as there would be one somewhere every week in the summer anyway. No need for a secure facility as Americans would not be riddled with crime. Too many responsible gun owners would make crime an extremely short-lived career choice.
Who knows? In time, there may come a point where AmeriKans tire of the unceasing assault on there senses and start to migrate en masse, we may have to redraw the borders until just Massachusetts and San Fran are the last strongholds of Lib/Soc. "culture".

This idea is far from new. Near the end of Bush's first term I remember hearing an angry Fundamentalist suggest that everyone pray for such a division. (FWIW, I think she may have been Dittoheading something Limbaugh suggested.)
Anyway, I believe the idea has gained substantial support since then so the possibility of another civil war doesn't seem all that far-fetched to me. Still a frightening thought though. Especially since I'm one of those @#@!@!#@ liberals and I know the right-wingnuts would have all the guns. (No doubt they're already locked and loaded.) Our peace signs wouldn't pack much wallop. Could be a real short war.
But to be honest, I'd be in favor of a division if it meant Limbaugh, Beck and Coulter, along with their fans, would no longer be part of MY country.

You seem to be assuming that our society is being destroyed by the will of its citizens. The great changes in societies come from small groups who are determined and outwit everybody else. From Julius Caesar to Napoleon to the Bolsheviks to Hitler to Castro—I could name a hundred others—a relatively small cadre of people changed everything before the common person knew what hit them—and certainly before they knew the consequences. That is what is happening in America—a small group of radicals has slickly sold its message. And its stated message is to destroy America we knew it.
There are not two visions of what America should be. Your narrow viewpoint as displayed here however only allows for two.
Things Considered— I do believe a tidal wave of evil has swept our land and will ultimately destroy it completely. One need only look at the Supreme Court decisions from 1962 to 1973 in particular—then used as precedent; or the saturation of the internet with pornography; and the sexualization of teenagers; or the objectification of women; the rise of socialism in direct opposition to liberty and capitalism; the generations of children without fathers; the smashing of all Americans once held dear including the family itself; the barring from the public square of religion. These are the symptoms of our sickness—not the sickness itself. All of these things have caused the division of our populace. It's easy to say that people who were and are against these things are the dividers—but that is deception. The people who made all these changes are the dividers.

The reason I say this is, the results we see—a decadent and degraded society—are the results of a determined plan, not an accident.
I do not see any hatred in my words, no. And I agree with you that many people have made positive contributions. I am not saying ALL people of any persuasion are perfect or evil. Diversity? Not all ideas are good ideas. The ideas that made America a great nation are being shunting aside. The radical left wants nothing to do with these ideas.
There are two visions of what America should be. You tell me how they can be reconciled when they are diametrically opposed? It is either OK to kill babies or its not. You can't half kill one.

There's so much going on here, and so there is so much I could say. I do tend to ramble on occassion, so let me say first the things that I most want to say.
Many, many of our founding fathers were indeed christians. Several of the most prominent and active were not. Two you have specifically chosen to quote are among those who most definitely were not christians, at all, and it is always a sure way to discredit one's self when one tries to claim that they were that which it is well known and documented that they were not.
Do you seriously believe that only christian conservative traditionalists have made and continue to make any worthwhile contributions to our society?
I find both of your countries as you represent them to hypothetically turn out to be quite unpleasant places to live. I would wager however, that in time your perfect christian america would evolve into pretty much exactly what we have here in america today. In fact, the experiment has already been done.
You pretend for the purposes of this hub that liberals are all evil and christian conservatives are all free of vice. When in fact all people are complicated layers of goodness and confusion.
I have always believed that our country -our great country you wish to divide- is so great because of her diversity and the balance our system strives to achieve. Though lately it has become increasingly difficult to respect many of the viewpoints on the 'right', I have tended to believe that TOGETHER WE ARE GREAT, and divided we're unbalanced. Both sides bring necessary strengths to the table, and the right needs the left just as much as the left needs the right.
This kind of wilful misunderstanding that your hub promotes is exactly what is wrong these days. We -you and I- could find common ground. But when one side is coming from a place of wilful misunderstanding and purposeful misrepresentation, what hope is there? Equate that to our leaders.

I have friends with whom I disagree vehemently about political issues, but we remain friends. There does seem to be a fair amount of hatred on the internet. There is something going on there, about talking to people you really don't know.

I don't believe you personally spoke any kind of insult or threat in your hub or comments James, However I have noticed quite a few using this hub as a forum to do exactly that. But that's the point though people say what they will. That is also my point, While I am glad that your hypothetical new nation would welcome the military, I fought for all opinions and beliefs in my time even those I don't agree with and while those in Amerika, may not be those who agree wholeheartedly with me they are still my people. As you said America is an ideal of true freedom and liberty for all. That is what the world sees in us and why so many desire so much to come here. I Would not want to be separated from those who disagree with me, they are my strength and a tool to push me towards greater self reflection and knowledge. Without them I would only know my own beliefs and view and while I may be well read I also understand that the sum total of my experience is just that my own. To really grow I must also be willing to see the world from a different view. The way to win a war quickly is to understand why the enemy is fighting in the first place, then you can address the real issue. Just as poverty is not a cause but a result. Poverty is the manifestation of many things, chief among them poor self image and belief. Many poor are not lazy but resigned to their fate, they truly believe they can not succeed so do not try. If we were only to see it from our own view we would be exasperated at their inability to change and even angered.
The same applies to politics and religion, all of us are reflecting what we have been taught and exposed to over the course of our lives. To say someone is wrong because they believe differently then you is to reveal how ignorant you really are and uneducated yourself. You do not know the history behind anyone's personal belief to them it is just as important and true as yours are to you. How about saying the truth of the matter in that you do not understand their beliefs not that they are idiots or wrong. Let me share this with you. In a few short years Muslims WILL outnumber Christians in this world of ours. Now to many of them You or I , anyone who believes in Jesus as the savior is not only wrong but hopelessly lost and in need of re-education. Now since they will be the majority population at that point will that mean that by sheer weight of numbers they are right? Or that they just don't understand Christian faith because they can not get over their own pride and arrogance to talk and see just how similar both faiths truly are and how both will play a necessary role in building our future.
Our should we just fight it out and lets the victor collect the spoils, I will and fight to the death because I am Christian and will fight for Christians no matter how extreme and deluded their beliefs, just as I have fought for all Americans no matter how extreme and short sighted their beliefs. Because at the end of the day they were Americans nonetheless.

Scott.Life— Thank you for your service to our great nation. I agree with you that no one should say, "Get out!" to anybody else. I think the Left is intent on carrying out their mission. My intent here is to suggest that I would like to see them do everything they want to do—but only to half the country. That way, if it ends up a big mess, it won't ruin the whole country. But if the Conservative side ends up a big mess, that won't ruin the whole country either. That was one of the original ideas in our Constitution about strong State's Rights. Strong states can reflect the values and culture of its residents. And conduct 50 small experiments with various ideas, little laboratories—to see what works. With our now huge and all powerful Federal Government, what doesn't work hurts everybody at once.
I'm not suggesting anyone leave, especially you—a veteran. I even said we'll gladly take the entire military—one less thing for the lefties to protest against. I don't have a job or health insurance, either, so I can empathize with you on that one. I agree wholeheartedly with you everyone should be free to believe whatever they believe. I meant to address public policy—not private worldviews. Obviously, we can't have two opposing public policies at the same time with one all-powerful central government. I agree with you that the only constant thing is change.

I prefer unity. I love America very much. America is an idea. It's not land or people, really. It is an idea. The idea of our founding fathers and our founding documents. First I seem to reflect certain aspects and ideals of every side spoken in this debate you have given birth to. For instance I believe that the erosion of traditional morals and family values has deeply hurt this nation, but I also believe extreme conservatism is only exasperating the issue. I am also appalled by the mindset of those who would say this is our country if you don't like it get out. To answer that form of justifiable arrogance. My family too came to this nation in 1698 from Scotland. We have fought in every war this nation has sent us to. I myself am a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan. To say though that despite my effort to fight for and protect your freedom to disagree and pursue your own beliefs, that if I don't agree with you Sherri then I should leave is horror to say the least. What was a fighting for over there then? I happen to be the product of a great traditional family but also a convicted felon, should I just leave then too. I wouldn't want to offend your sensibilities with the harsh reality of my life. Sometimes people make mistakes and some times things happen beyond their control.I don't have health care today, when my employer went belly up I lost it all. I live in a community of 56,000 where 16,000 are now unemployed.Yes I will receive health care at the emergency room but afterward I will also receive a fat bill that I can not afford to pay and thus will be taken to court where my wages will be garnished until such time as I can afford to. Judging others and their situation by your own standard of life and experience is small minded to say the least.

While in America the truth will taught, along with the Western Canon, in Amerika you can have gender studies and identity politics. I only got this thought since I have been on HubPages. In real life, I have Liberal family and friends—and we discuss all of this civilly. But I have learned through Hub Pages that there really is a loony left out there that will swallow anything without question; and instead of discussing issues or facts—they counter facts with Ad Hominem attacks. It has dimmed my view of the future we might have living together in harmony.

I think you should get rid of the name America or at least give it the "Amerika". Multiple reasons as to why, one is you will have to explain to the dumb offspring, America is not an English name, and that may inspire some hatred down the line, Two, it may be difficult to explain the double sound of "C", the "K" is much simpler and relates to KKK, who I am sure will have their proper place again in your "America", as I am also certain education will not be a priority for the "America" you describe so going to the K will make dem kids feel as smart as dem kids in that other place. Wait, education is all together for queer folk and sexual misfits, better just to ban the whole library system while you are imagining. When Bush was the President the Right thought myself and all of my Leftie friends should have moved to France. Now you all want to secede because liberals are in power again. This will save me laboriously citing countless pages of data from David Barton who has the largest private collection of original documents relating to US constitutional history. Barton is familiar with what you say and refutes is solidly, pointing out that only a handful of the Founding Fathers were not Christians (some were even ordained ministers) and of the remainder those such a Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson recognised and encouraged the positive contribution that the Bible and Christian morality afforded the nation.
Barton also concurs with somethng I have explained elsewhere, that Jefferson's understanding of the principle of 'Separation of Church and State' differed from that held by liberals today, which has only pertained since about the 1940s.
In England, Henry VIII seized control and installed himself as head of the Church of England in the 1500s in order to facilitate his divorce from Catherine of Aragon. As such, the king and not the church determined doctrine and anyone who dissented was put to death for heresy or treason: Indeed, good King Henry used to burn Protesants as heretics and hang, draw and quarter Catholics as traitors.
To this day bishops of the Church of England sit in the House of Lords in Britain's Parliament and are appointed by the Prime Minister, but in the 1500s, 1600s and 1700s, they used their political clout to persecute non-conformist denominations, which is why so many Christians fled to the American colonies to escape State interference at home.
It was thus to protect American Christians from the threat of State interference that Thomas Jefferson enshrined the principle of 'separation' of the two in the US Constitution. In other words, Jefferson never envisaged that his provision would ever be so twisted and abused as to prohibit Christians from praying in public, but intended that it be used to prevent the State so interfering with the Church.
Barton also highlights how the Supreme Court has taken powers not actually granted to it by the Constitution, which made it the inferior banch of government (being unelected). Abraham Lincoln and others totally ignored certain Supreme Court judgements for this reason and only relatively recently have Americans come to believe the lie that the Supreme Court can constitutionally overrule the elected executive and legislature.

As I said in my Hub "National Health Care" the problem with health care now is that the government is in it. The prescription to poison is not more poison. Medicare and Medicaid ruined the health care system regarding costs. You said:

Everything in this country should be for-profit. Who do you think is more apt to reduce fraud and keep costs down, a company that has to make a profit or a bureaucrat who has no stake whatsoever in the financial results? Be for real! The two Medis admit to a $100B a year fraud problem—15% of all claims. How come Visa/MasterCard only has a fraud rate of .04%? They care about fraud, of course. We, the taxpayers, were originally told the two Medis would cost $4B a year—they cost $660B! By all means, let's give them a $16 trillion business to run, they've done such a bang up job.
The problem is the link between work and health insurance—a link created by labor unions and government. The government sets the price of 700 medical procedures now. The government prevents insurance companies from selling across state lines—drastically reducing competition. This government refuses to reform malpractice claims. Some surgeons pay $200,000 a year for this—we pay for it in the end. That's why doctors order so many unnecessary procedures—putting people through torture—so if they get sued because their "practice" didn't work, they can show they ordered every procedure under the sun. The trial lawyers—talk about wealthy people—have the Dems in their back pocket.
Have you ever wondered why the cost of ALL technology goes down except health care? Because the government is playing middle man. Do you notice an explosion in the cost of computers, TVs, cell phones, microwaves? No. The free market means competition drives prices down. Now, if the government stepped in and set the prices of all these things; and you had to pay an army of bureaucrats to shuffle paper for you—do you think these things would soon cost more or less?
I am not being mean. I love people. I want what is best for all Americans. Believe me, turning over the health care industry to the government will ruin this country. The two Medis say they won't be able to pay for the programs they've got now, for the baby boomers, like me. They should be turned over to a private company—yes, for profit. The greatest example of having the government running the world has been tried—in the USSR. Did they build a better country than we did in the US? Heck No! That's not how the world works.
But I appreciate your big, loving heart. I know you mean well. Just don't drink the Kool-Aid. It won't be good for you or for me or for anybody.

As a matter of fact most probably none of them were. Washington never in his life proclaimed to be Christian. Even on his death bed No religious tone existed. Hi, James, I'm back. What I think is mean is the idea of dividing up our country and am thinking of the horrible devastation the last time that idea was tried. And as for the hatred, I think the Hitler moustaches say it all. If that's not enough, the Mark Levins and Sean Hannity crowd are stirring up hatred with the words they use and the suggestions that the liberals want to destroy this country.
But, I can see how people disagree on most things. To have everyone agree all the time is impossible and would probably be dangerous.
I am suggesting that instead of name calling and insult hurling, we all just talk and say what we really think instead of cloaked platitudes. The southern half of the United States has greatly prospered since A/C was invented. The fastest growing states and cities are all in the South. So, I feel confident the South will be very successful this time, as opposed to the largely dying inner cities of the north.

There are a couple of nice ladies who are Hubbers that staunchly defend the NHS—like it's the greatest thing since white bread. I have a couple books by Dr. Theodore Dalrymple (from England) that blast the health care in the UK, but these gals will not hear of it.

I generally hear that they do—you know, with the so-called "fly-over" zone separating them. In what way do they differ?
There are so many people that hate the South for one reason or another. Yet the largest number of enlisted men and women comes from the South, with the largest number coming from Texas. Yes I am sure someone that is ignorant and just a blowhard is going to make comments along the lines of "military people are stupid". Believe me I have heard it from enough people that are strangely ALL from New England. Yet the same people that want to whine and complain are allowed to do so because of these men and women. I'm in the process of catching up with some of your stuff and it's good. But, having read the respective profiles of America and Amerika, might I suggest you're too late. Amerika already exists as a separate entity - it's called Great Britain. We pretty much qualify and fit all the criteria you mention.
We have no border control to speak of, an ingrained politically correct Socialist agenda, the most CCTV camera surviellance in the entire world, and we arrest Christians for saying what the Bible teaches...the list goes on.
Positive discrimination in favour of women and minorities has been legalised and murdering a homosexual will get you ten or twenty years longer in prison than beating an old lady to death because 'obviously' the former is a 'hate crime' while killing an elderly woman is an act of love.
Our Welfare State was a noble aspiration that didn't work out, as the social safety net became a societal feather bed for the indolent. And as for the NHS, it was another great idea that didn't work out. While free emergency provision and support for maternity and children's needs are laudable, we like to lavish public money on worthwhile healthcare, like the State picking up the tab for reverse sex-change surgery or methadone and clean needle programmes for drug addicts. It was never ever affordable but founded in 1948 by a bankrupt Labour government using money borrowed from the United States. That's right, American money established the National Health Service.
Like all Socialists, successive British gevernments are adept at spending other people's money, and if you want to pay 60% of your income in direct taxes to keep unemployable alcoholics in enhanced benefits, and pay $10-a-gallon for your petrol (gas), come to Amerika (UK).
Yeah, see, having lived on both the East and West Coasts, but mostly in the middle, I don't really see them as being that similar at all in terms of the issues that are really most important to them. kerryg— I had never heard of this "nine nations" plan. I must say, it is very interesting. Of course, splitting into nine would be much more difficult with the military bases all around the country (and other things). And all nine would be weakened in the international community tremendously.
I was trying to find a fairly even split of the population (and electoral votes) since the populace appears to be split about 50-50 on many irreconcilable issues that face us today. And the aggregate sum of the last 4 elections gives us pretty close to 50-50 split of the people (not land) on this map I included. So, the two countries would still be 150 million people each—no small fries on the global stage.
If the Red states on the map above had Ohio, it would at least be contiguous in the East (as it is without Ohio by water across Lake Erie). Not much way to link it to the west coast. I suppose east and west could go their own ways, making it three countries—but they are well matched in political and cultural belief systems.
I thank you for a nice proposal. It remains a possibility.
pgrundy— It is possible it would turn violent. It happened here during the Civil War, as you say, and the partition of India might have been worse, with murder and mayhem running amok. Czechoslovakia did partition peacefully, so maybe there is hope there. I agree with the end of your comment—cutting to the chase. It seems to me we could then quit the bickering and let both kinds of people live in the type of society they want—or most of them, anyway.

Well, we did try it once, and I confess there have been plenty of moments over the past months when I'm not so sure the union should have been preserved.
The issue I see with your proposal here is geographic. I doubt a serious attempt to partition the U.S. would happen without bloodshed, and then maintaining whatever boundaries were finally laid down would involve constant violence. That's my view, that's what happened before too.
Whatever happens, if the current tone of political discourse continues in the U.S. we'll have civil war anyway, so might as well just cut to the chase.

The map reflects the last four Presidential elections combined. One election is not a large enough sample, and besides, this is my prediction how the referendums would go. I said clearly that I recommended referendums in each state. What that means, chuck, is that the citizens who live there get to vote on to which nation they prefer to belong (they should be alive and in the country legally). And I stated that it is possible a few more states might go with Communism and libertinism and Godlessness. I also said that is just fine. Let the chips fall where they may.

Well I must say James I did think on that question quite a bit before I could respond. Do I want the partition and if not, why not? I do not believe in anything that creates separatism. I do not believe that people need to be pulled further apart but need to find ways to draw themselves closer together.
Part of the problem in our beloved country as it is now is that we are all being pulled further and further away from each other by our differences instead of finding ways to face those differences and create solutions to them. We need compassion and understanding. What happened to that, did it ever exist?
Now we should just divvy up the country into "parts" as well. I know this country is not what the "founding fathers" envisioned. My ancestors have been here since 1646, I believe it was, the Westcott's. They helped found Rhode Island. They also got killed by my ancestors the Mohawk. (Clearly somebody didn't hate somebody somewhere along the line). I doubt my Mohawk ancestors thought the white men were good for their land anymore than my White ancestors thought those savages could cope with the "New World". Who was right? Sure, my white ancestors survived but that sure as hell doesn't mean they were the correct ones now does it? Is it really just survival of the fittest, of the ones with the best arsenal? Is that really all we are?
I think instead of dividing up our country, the country our founding fathers created for better or worse, we need to grow up. America is still a young country with a lot to learn. We need to learn to play nice, to share, not to call names and to LISTEN to each other. Why is that so hard? No, I don't want a partitioned America. After all, without the "obstructionists" as they call Conservatives, they will have carte blanche. They can finally achieve their dream without interference—and quickly, too. Without Conservatives around, they should be in agreement to implement their entire vision within one year.
