The Late Great United States of America

It is the year 2316. At the podium, a professor is about to give a lecture on World History. Let's listen in.
This year marks the 300th anniversary of the fall of the Republic of the United States of America. The United States was the greatest civilization in the history of the world. Today, I will address how America fell. Next week, we will look back at the story that led up to America's demise.
The United States was founded in 1776, and it lasted for 240 years. At the time of its demise, the United States had the oldest Constitution in use in the world. It was the first country in which the citizens governed themselves; where people were free to create any kind of life for themselves that they were able to make with their own intelligence, motivation, prudence, and effort—regardless of their station of birth. Before the United States, Kings and Queens governed people with an iron fist, and the people had little say in the result of their labors; and little freedom of speech. People were born into a certain station of life, and they generally stayed there. One would have to go all the way back to ancient Rome in order to find another successful republic. Its fall was equally swift, and it was just as astonishing.
THE FOUNDING FATHERS
The United States was founded by the most remarkable group of men ever assembled. Together, they wrote a Declaration of Independence, a Constitution, and a Bill of Rights. The republic they founded was based on the principle that people had rights granted by God—not by other men—to govern themselves, with individual Liberty, Free Enterprise, and without interference by government. It was so successful that the idea was copied by nation states around the world.
People moved to the United States by the tens of millions from around the world—even on homemade rafts across shark infested oceans—to have a chance to participate in the greatest experiment in freedom ever attempted by mankind; leaving behind their home lands and the people they knew and loved.
The people of the United States were the most religious on Earth, and they thanked God daily for their abundance. Their land was covered with churches built to honor God, and to come together regularly as communities to worship.
These Americans proved to be by far the most loving and charitable people that have ever appeared on Earth. As their material wealth grew, they sent missionaries with food and medicine around the globe to share with the less fortunate and less industrious.
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
America became by far the most wealthy and powerful people in the history of the world. But they shared their wealth at a high level never seen before; and they used their power not to conquer—but to free the conquered and the enslaved by the hundreds of millions. The voluntary transfers of wealth from Americans to other Americans and to other peoples of the world were in the trillions of dollars. Nothing like this had ever happened before in the history of our world.
The incredible wealth of America was earned by sheer will and ingenuity—made possible by freedom, right to private property, and free market capitalism. It was a meritocracy of the first rank, which motivated human beings as never before, who knew that what they produced was theirs to keep. Under these circumstances the people of The United States created inventions that improved the quality of life immeasurably for people everywhere in the world. By the time the country was disbanded, most everything considered modern and civilized had been created by Americans—but shared with others (or emulated) around the globe.
The achievements of Americans produced advancements that humankind could not have dreamed about before America came to be. They created automobiles, airplanes, appliances, and spacecraft that traveled to the Moon. They made astounding advances in medicine, law, sciences, music, nuclear energy, communications, other technologies, and invented the Internet. By contrast, we today are just emerging from what some call the "The Second Dark Ages." And by now, you must be wondering, "What happened?"
THE PROGRESSIVES
The system in America rewarded individual, or corporate, or communal, achievement in all fields. Naturally, since human beings are of very unequal intelligence, motivation, discipline, and virtue, the achievements were not equally achieved—and therefore the rewards were not equally distributed. To a shallow observer this may appear to be a bad thing, but it was in fact the beauty of this system that led to all that unbelievable prosperity. Human nature being what it is, there were people who were envious of the achievers. A group of intellectuals arose determined to lead them in revolution.
These intellectuals called themselves Progressives. They were in fact Socialists, or Communists. But because of the worldwide failure of Socialism by the Nazis of Germany, for instance; and of Communism by the Russians, Chinese, Cambodians, et al., which resulted in the extermination of well over 100 million human beings, these intellectuals adopted the name "Progressives." After all, it has the word "progress" in it—and everybody is for progress. This was only the beginning of their twisting of language to make "up" mean "down" or "out" to mean "in"—but we'll circle back to that later.
The Progressives were nearly all Atheists or Agnostics. But most of them pretended to be Christians in order to win elections. Some claimed allegiance to some vague concept of God, but were speaking falsely. The key aspect to understand about Progressives is that they did not believe in any such thing as objective truth. Therefore lying came naturally to them. Those who tried to save America for all of mankind lied sometimes too—all people lie—but their lies (and other moral shortcomings) proved far more damaging; their lies opened them up to charges of hypocrisy. But take care to note; there is an enormous difference between lying as a moral failure, and lying as the basis for a political movement.
The Progressives had figured out something that gave them two important advantages. First, to have no moral standards means you can never be a hypocrite. Second, it means that a lot of people with wicked desires in their hearts will vote for you. In truth, however, we know it is better to have moral standards—even knowing all will fall short of them—than to have none, which leads to moral anarchy.
DECONSTRUCTION
Unable to take control by elections or democracy, Progressives had to resort to nefarious means to achieve their ends. Their ends were that every person on the planet should have an equal share of all wealth; and an equal share of all health care, housing, food, education—all the fruits of the labors of the entire world should be shared equally. Their motto was that ANY means justified these ends. The Progressive theorist Saul Alinsky paved the way, founding strategies such as cloaking oneself in phony patriotism to gain power.
The Progressives hated America. They hated its freedom, its values, and they especially hated Christianity. What the Progressives had to do is called "deconstruction." This means to deconstruct the true meaning of the world and human life. To deconstruct belief systems, customs, traditions, and any authority that might compete with state authority. They had to destroy the American family, American Religion, and American Business. These were the three huge obstacles to their utopian dreams, and they needed to overcome these impediments in order for their views to have any chance of acceptance. And this they set out to do with a vengeance. We will explore how this was done in the next lecture, but for today let's move on to how the Progressives finally achieved their goal and destroyed America in 2016.
PROGRESSIVES TAKE CONTROL
The Progressives took control of America in 2009. They immediately began a gradual takeover of the manufacturing, insurance, banking, and mortgage industries, as well as the stock market of the country. Early in the year they flexed their muscles by closing hundreds of car dealerships that belonged to their opposition--known as Conservatives (those who desired to conserve the American Way of life). This was a trial balloon to gauge resistance.
The first year in power they printed a trillion dollars and gave it to their political backers, primarily funneling it to unions and other subversive groups, which they called "stimulus." Printing this unprecedented amount of new money led to a destabilization of the economy and created yet another crisis—just what the Progressives wanted to further implement their plans. Anyone who opposed these astounding machinations was called a racist.
PROGRESSIVES CONSOLIDATE POWER
2010 was a huge year for the Progressive Movement. They took control over the health care industry in America—17% of the entire economy. Soon came rationing of health care by the government. This type of power is always politicized in the end. That laid the foundation for their eventual plan, which was to deny medical care to any anti-Progressive person. Now the Progressives had the very life and death of the people held within their hands.
The Progressives then put a woman on the Supreme Court who had sued the United States Army during wartime. Next, they took control of University education by taking command of the funding process by which students could attain a university degree. They would use this power to deny a college education to anyone who did not agree with their dogmas—all the while villainously claiming that their only motivation was to increase "diversity." Anyone who protested was publicly branded a racist by Progressives.
Also announced in 2010 was a requirement that all citizens must volunteer for a mandatory 2 years of civil service. The purpose of this obligation was to assess the political beliefs of the citizens. Assessments were accomplished by the utilization of a one month training course on "right-thought," otherwise known as "political correctness" and "multiculturalism." Within a few years, those giving the wrong answers were sent to reeducation camps, similar to those used by the idols of Progressives: Chairman Mao of China, and Josef Stalin of the USSR. The only way to "graduate" from these camps was to convince the secret police that you firmly believed in the Progressive ideology.
The Progressives next nationalized the hated pharmaceutical companies. They convinced the public that this was necessary because the companies were greedy and oppressive. In truth, it was so they could control people's medications. By this time, 30% of the nation was on anti-depressants, and 90% of the nation on some sort of medication. Anyone opposed to Progressivism was denied their happy pills. People addicted to drugs, suffering from withdrawal, will go a long ways to get relief.
The Progressive government used taxpayer funds—mostly generated by non-Progressives who worked for a living—to fund the "National Endowment for the Arts," which was used to create propaganda. In addition, the government took control of most newspapers in the country, ostensibly to save the "Free Press," but in actuality to use taxes to prop up failing companies that were then used as propaganda organs.
But the most incredibly bold move came later that same year. The American people had slowly begun to catch on to what was happening to their Liberty and Freedom, and it had become obvious that Progressives would lose power in the fall elections of 2010. Suddenly, that summer, the Progressives declared that the 14 million people who had illegally snuck across America's borders were now citizens and all were welcomed to vote in the fall elections. Of course, previously compiled research had shown that given this right nearly all of them would vote for the Progressive Party, what with their promises to confiscate wealth Americans had earned and give it to them for their votes.
They also changed American law to grant the right to vote to 4 million convicted felons, whom they knew would vote for Progressives by 100 to 1 (Progressive ideology taught that there was no such thing as a criminal, merely people forced to commit crimes because of the oppressiveness of American society).
The Progressives weren't even close to done. A month before the elections, they passed a law making Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia the 51st and 52nd states of America. Publicly, they said it was for "inclusiveness," but history shows its real purpose was to stack the Congress with 7 more Progressive Representatives and 4 more Progressive Senators. The Electoral College was also eliminated, so as to diminish opposition from what was called "The Heartland." Anyone who spoke out against these moves was officially denounced by the government as a racist.
Progressives pulled of one the greatest scams of all time when they convinced many Americans that the Earth was warming—not because it always does warm and cool cyclically, but because of American energy consumption. They used this hoax to take control of all energy in the United States—to save the people, of course. They would in later years use this power to deny electricity, gasoline, and then water to any people who were not Progressives. Naturally, as this went on, fewer and fewer people opposed them. It is not surprising what compromises people will make to survive. The takeover of the energy sector involved a friend of the American President who received ten trillion dollars per year to manage a program called Cap and Trade, which he distributed to Socialist labor unions and foreign countries. But first it was used to bankrupt the so-called 'Red States," which is where the opposition to Progressives was the strongest. Their earnings were confiscated and given to states that supported the Progressives, known as "Blue States.
PRESIDENT FOR LIFE
In 2011 the government supported the building of an Islamic Mosque at the most sacred spot in the country, Ground Zero. It was claimed to be a show of "Tolerance."
Later that same year, the Progressives announced that the United States would, from then on, have open borders. The entire world was invited to come and share America's wealth. All that came would have cradle-to-grave support from American taxpayers. Twenty million Mexican peasants swarmed over the border in the first year, along with twenty million more from Central and South America. Most of these immigrants were illiterate and unskilled, but their forty million extra votes for the Progressive agenda meant that the Progressives would rule forever. It was a mere formality when they cancelled the elections of 2012; it was a foregone conclusion they would win. This was justified by stating that the cost of elections—millions of dollars—would be given to the poor newcomers instead. What a great show of kindness it seemed to be. Anyone who spoke out against open borders was required to wear a yellow armband with the word "racist" on it.
The Progressives then announced free abortions for all, and from that day on every pregnant woman was required to report to "Planned Parenthood." The organization’s very name defines the essence of Progressive deception, since "parenthood" was not what was being "planned." The "counselors" at Planned Parenthood made sure the Progressives could exercise population control. All doctors and nurses were required to perform abortions, regardless of conscience or beliefs. By 2016, "abortions" were legalized—and strongly encouraged—for any children who had not yet reached their second birthday (since they were not yet fully aware of themselves, and therefore merely animals, or "potential" human beings).
There was a resistance movement called the "Tea Party," and members of the movement came from all over the country. These were mostly grandmas and grandpas who believed in the America of old. The Progressives banned the Tea Party as a "Clear and Present Danger" to public order. Large government rewards were issued for anyone who would report their neighbors as being against the regime. Use of the American flag was prohibited, as the Progressives had deemed it a "symbol of oppression."
THE BEGINNING OF THE END
In 2012, the government announced that from that point on all professions would be represented by at least 50% women, 3% Asians, 12% blacks, 25% Hispanics, and no more than 63% whites. Needless to say, the quality of brain surgeons, airline pilots, and nuclear physicists dropped precipitously in the years to follow. Only professional athletes, singers, and dancers were excluded from quotas. Entertainment, the opium of the masses, had to remain at top quality and be provided by those in tune with Progressive ideals.
In the fall of 2012, several journalists and television personalities who opposed Progressivism mysteriously turned up missing. Their bodies were never found. The company they worked for, Fox News, was banned by the government as subversive and racist. The government shockingly seized control of radio and the internet.
Marriage was eliminated in steps. First, people were granted the right to marry others of their own sex. Then, polygamy was legalized, followed closely by polyamory. The Supreme Court, by then packed with Progressives, as Conservative members of the Court went missing (their bodies were never found), ruled that any restrictions on marriage were unconstitutional due to penumbras and emanations they saw in their daydreams. Eventually, the Progressives explained that marriage was an outdated institution altogether.
CHRISTIAN PERSECUTION
In 2013, Christianity was officially banned as racist and homophobic. Churches were confiscated to warehouse the new populations that continued to stream into the country. Only if a church declared themselves Progressive—meaning they did not actually believe in God, and agreed to promote abortion, homosexuality, and the so-called "Social Gospel"—were they allowed to exist. All Bibles were confiscated and burned. Anyone who fought these changes was not allowed to work, and forced to live off of what they could scavenge from other people's garbage cans.
Some of the strongest opposition to Progressive aims came from the military. In a brilliant stroke, this problem was solved by splitting the armed forces in half. One half was made into an internal army, assigned to control the civilian populace in America; the other half was put under the control of the United Nations—including all nuclear armaments. Iran and Libya were chosen to head the UN Armaments committee.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
In 2014, every American was required to register all of their firearms with the government. This condition was but a pretext to banning all firearms the following year. Refusal to turn in any guns you possessed meant a death sentence. Sadly, this resulted in an enormous crime wave, because the disarmed, law-abiding citizens could no longer defend themselves against gangs of criminals—who still had guns. Their guns had always been illegal.
Also in 2014, the Progressive government announced that all Americans would now receive equal pay. To enforce this, the government nationalized every business in the country, and proclaimed a cashless society. All money flowed to the government electronically; and flowed from the government into debit card accounts of people who found favor in its eyes. Each adult now worked for the government, and each worker was to be paid $50,000 per year, regardless of what type of work—if any—they performed. We know now that in fact government workers and union members received double that amount, and members of the Progressive Party lived as billionaires. But this was kept secret through government propaganda and media control.
In a move reminiscent of another Marxist Black Liberation Leader, Robert Mugabe of Rhodesia, word was passed along to the poor communities that they should seize all of the farmland in America. All they had to do was squat on it and use it as they saw fit. Any farmers who opposed would be shipped to reeducation camps to cure them of racism. The rationale given by the government for this was that it was obvious to Progressives that it was not losing the land they had worked for fifty years that bothered the farmers; it was having their land taken by non-white people that had to be the problem. Unfortunately, similar to Rhodesia, the United States went from being the food supplier to much of the world, to not being able to feed itself, as the squatters lacked one important ingredient: they didn't know how to grow things.
Next, the poor were secretly trained by Community Organizers, such as the notorious ACORN, to waltz into any home over 1,000 square feet, forcibly evict those living there, and take the homes for themselves. After all, the enormous influx of immigrants was living in squalor. No family was worthy of living in more than 1,000 square feet of space, while others lived in shacks. Unfortunately, a lot of rape, beatings, and killings occurred, but the government thought it an acceptable sacrifice for the good of the "Collective." They put a great name on it: Social Justice. Any who resisted were physically branded on the forehead by a hot iron with a big letter "R" for racist.
Private property was abolished. The Progressives announced that Social Justice could only be achieved if "the people" owned everything in the United States, but their definition of “the people” meant the government. Of course, the choicest mansions went to top party members (called comrades).
THE VERICHIP
In 2015, the Progressives removed all mention (or symbols) of God and Christianity from America’s public buildings, monuments, documents, and seals. They justified this action by claiming that any mention of God in public had to have the opprobrium of the government, or it would violate "Separation of Church and State." Their methodical removal of all crosses from every cemetery in America proved to be a daunting task, but it got done; they made it a priority. A few old veterans fussed about the thousands of crosses uprooted at Arlington National Cemetery, but they were silenced by some well placed bullets. Finally, came the destruction of all historical sites in America that were related to its Founders; they proclaimed them to be monuments of racism.
Also in 2015, all Americans were required to have a VeriChip implanted in their wrists. Any who refused could not buy, sell, or work. Little did they know that since 2012 their televisions had been wired by the Progressives to monitor the speech inside of their homes. Many were taken away in the middle of the night for daring to question Progressive ideals in what they thought were private conversations. The mass graves have only now been found. This was justified at the time on the grounds that they were either racists or homophobes.
THE SAD END OF AMERICA
Finally, in 2016, the United States was disbanded. The Progressives proclaimed that they were "citizens of the world." The United Nations was given control of America. Soon thereafter, the American President was named President of the World, and a new World Government was implemented. All people in the whole world were to now receive a salary of $10,000 per year; from molecular biologists to Borneo tribesmen (Some tribesmen were confused as they had no banks and had never seen a check. They used them for toilet paper. The world government bureaucracy kept mailing them their checks anyway). Finally, the world was equal.
But the world came to a standstill as people no longer had any reason to work, create, discover, or innovate. So, they were forced to work as slaves of the state. The Second Dark Ages soon followed.
History was rewritten to cover the crimes of the Progressives. One hundred million Americans perished. We know that the Progressives were working closely with the Chinese and Russian governments, with the goal of bringing down the United States of America—the only obstacle to a New World Communist Government. We are just now learning what happened as we undergo the Second Renaissance.
Next time we will discuss how the groundwork was laid before 2009 that enabled the Progressives to ruin civilization and plunge us into the Second Dark Ages. Questions?

This was excellent, but I also see that the ironic hyperbole of political satire is lost on some. Maybe the mistake was to be too explicit, but the caption included of a scene from Soylent Green should have been a clue.
When Aldous Huxley wrote 'Brave New World' and George Orwell, '1984' and 'Animal Farm', they were proclaimed works of genius, but because you write about the American Political Left all semblance of humour goes out the window.

blue parrot— I agree with you. There are myriad causes. But the social programs instituted under "The Great Society" did necessitate the printing of much "new" money to pay for them. Going off the Gold Standard may be the true reason. Good eye. Thank you for the correction. I think you're right.

In fact this curve does not show the relevant data, but I don't think you can find a single cause for such a broad trend. You realize the curve shows the dollar to gold value, but at one point back then the US abolished what was called "the gold standard", as most countries had done before. Money ceased to have some "objective" value and became a political instrument that allowed the US to continue expanding its activities abroad.
I think you cannot find a single cause. What about the invention of TV? What about the two world wars? These things are still too near and too big to be classified and labelled.

I only wish perhaps someone could realize that perhaps OUR version of 'the truth' is not all there is. I can never envision a god who would believe that one people or one race was always right or was the 'chosen'. We prance around the globe trying to convert people to our way of 'peace' meanwhile causing or aiding in all the wars - and we can't even take care of the people between our shores - or keep from becoming a 'foreign country' within our own doors. Makes no sense to me - but I think I lost my crown a few decades ago and no one bothers listening to me! Perhaps one of these days as a collective voice....one can only hope.

You are right. We long protected Europe from Communist aggression by stationing 100,000 troops there. We've long protected South Korea and Taiwan as well, and other places. As far as aggressive actions go, the United States has long operated on the theory that if someone declares themselves our enemy, we will take the fight to them where they are. Because, the alternative is to fight them on our soil, on the defensive.

This is one of the most troubling things going on around here. I can't understand why a wall wasn't built years ago to stop this. The Social Liberals never wanted one and likened it to the Berlin Wall—that it would be a symbol of oppression as that was. As to the most powerful nation - think the Romans - we can fail and we probably will fail because we have not taken the precautionary measures to protect ourselves and our own. We are spread across the world and we have our hands in everyone's country but we cannot take care of our own people. What's wrong with that scenario? I am not sure how we keep voting Republican/Democrat - where is it actually getting us? We have so many people coming across the border and receiving enormous benefits - while the rest of us 'middle income' folks just keep paying and paying. It makes no sense to me. I don't need to think long and hard about what our outcome is going to be - I just worry about what I will do when our country is no longer our own...and it may already be. My biggest beef is that no one seems to want to stand up and shout - stop! I wonder at times as my mom says if we are not all being drugged to death with prescription meds and we have gone brain dead?

As seen from here, the habit of doing great things and waging long wars without however paying for them has created a climate or nutty optimism which is now collapsing or turning into a shaky sense of puzzlement.

Hxprof— I think you know you are welcome anytime to opine. Most people do believe the USA can't fall for the same reason the Romans named Rome the Eternal City. It doesn't seem feasible. The book "The Black Swan" explains this sort of thing beautifully (highly recommended). The way we look back at history, with why what happened, gives a subtle perception that it was predictable when in fact life and history is completely unpredictable. WWI was supposed to a three month skirmish. The Great Depression "couldn't happen." A small band of Bolsheviks could not possibly take over a country the size of Russia. No way "babarians" could topple Rome.
I couldn't resist one more comment on this article (jeeze, would this dude write his OWN article?). See if you can answer a question for which I have no answer: How can so many Americans believe that this country CAN'T fall, or won't fall, when we can't/won't protect our borders? James I know that you stirred the Hornets nest with this one, and It has a Huxley and Orwell element to it. And it seems only the dissenters choose to paint your Illustration as ridiculous. However I say they are either naive , in denial or in quiet complicity with the events that are transpiring to make this a reality. I say look at who BO surounds himself with. We have an AG who cannot even acknowledge radical Islam. One of Obamas advisors Anita Hill has already made a speech in praise of Mao in her history. And a nutjob named Cass Sunstein who wants control of all media especially the Internet but they call it " Net Neutrality " when in fact it is a form of thought control. You control the Info you control the people. And now we have a Supreme Court nominee who wholeheartedly endorses that philosophy. I rarely listen to what people say I watch what they do. And the actions of this administration make these scenarios not that far from the fiction they currently are. In fact the arms treaty Hillary signed at the UN was just a way to go around the second amendment. I do not own a gun but I believe you are entitled to own one.

The problem with Redistribution is who decides how much is taken from whom and who it gets redistributed to? That is a lot of power and history shows it always gets politicized, i.e., that it gets redistributed to the supporters of one political power and taken from the opposition. And it is taken by force, if necessary. As George Bernard Shaw said, "If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on the support of Paul." Shaw was a Socialist, so on first reading it might seem this sentence would be said in oposition to Socialism but he in fact said it to support Socialism—to demonstrate how Socialists could claim and always keep political power by essentially buying it from the less accomplished. These are deep issues that need to be thought through carefully. Everybody recognizes "Let's help the poor" is a fine ideal. But how?
The harsh reality is that Progressives feel our Constitution is outdated and not important. They say so themselves. And they don't teach kids the truth. You can't blame the kids much, they've been fed lies by our school system, which teaches a curriculum that is decidedly Anti-American.
I wholeheartedly agree with TonyMac04's comments to you and this hub. I believe you have made alot of statements that ARE misinformed or just not true eg. global warming. I also hope that you are writing these hubs as a wake up call to America because you want our democracy to prevail. I see corporate greed , deregulation over the past twenty-some years as the direct contributing factors to the failures the world ecomony has experienced because of America's greed. We are also in a transitional period of growth in America , changing from the industrial revolution period to the age of possibly leading the world in information technology. Capitalism and corporate greed in the hands of a few , possibly 2% of our population, has caused the world to suffer. And the billionaires to grow stronger til God only knows where this will stop? A college professor of mine, back in the early 70's predicted that America was going to fall and I was furious with her . What disappointed me the most were some of the comments. People were "shocked", etc. Great writing provokes many emotions so keep on shocking us. I hate reading dull writing agreeable to the masses.I believe you are giving an honest interpretation of an cause and effect scenario. I especially liked your first couple paragraphs after the heading The Progressives- I totally believe the beauty of our country is that we all have equal chance at the American dream, some people have to work harder some work smarter and others want a free ride with no contribution to anything. I've worked with my fair share of illegal immigrants, being in the restaurant business, and they laugh at and disrespect our country. Hitler is just a good example of groupthink and the strong influence of charisma during election season. The fact Hitler was voted into power by the people and popular vote shows that masses of people can be wrong. Is it possible people are wrong about Obama. I'm just drawing the line between how Obama got elected and how Hitler gained his position.

We aren't teaching the Constitution at all anymore so our youth have no idea of its significance nor do they understand the gravity of the latest infringements.

I don't understand what you're driving at about Jesus Christ. I don't recall anybody ever suggesting that He killed anybody. He was killed, of course. Jesus would love everybody as I do. He would direct each of us to personally feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, clothe the maked, visit those in hospital and prison. Each of us should do all we can to alleviate suffering and hunger—that's what Jesus would say. What he would not say is "Let's create a mammoth bureaucracy with millions of employees to confiscate money from people and give it to other people." That is not Caesar's job. That's our job. Caesar is not good at it; it's too impersonal; it robs people of their dignity; Caesar will eat up half the money supporting the bureaucracy itself. If I send $100 to the government, my hungry neighbor gets $50. I would rather give him $100 myself. By the way, Christians outgive non-Christians to charity 10 to 1, so apparently most of them do take Jesus' advice.
Press me to give my wealth? I have given 20% of my income to charity for years. And 50% in taxes.
Where did Jesus preach equality? I don't see that in my Bible. He didn't treat His own Apostles equally, he had three who were His favorites. People are not equal. You know that. Jesus said a lot of things, but give all your money to the secular government was not one of them. He stressed private charity—altogether a different thing.
What do you want? A worldwide Soviet Union? How did that work out? How does Communism work in out North Korea? East Germany?

Gosh man, I also would like to see the Mexican people prosper. I've spent a fair amount of time in Mexico and the people there are wonderful. I had not heard of people in Rhodesia being murdered for oil. I do know that many white farmers have been murdered and driven off their magnificent farms they built in the wild and now what was once the breadbasket of Africa has no food. Whoops!

I have to tell you I was thinking of Huxley's "Brave New World" as I was reading. The dangers of giving a government such power are terribly frightening and you did an excellent job of frightening a lot of people.

Well, James...I deeple respect you, but....
Your scary storry will not happen - try to be positive - IF all people on Earth would earn 10000$ each per year, none of them would live in such slumms - people around the world who struggle with poverty in such slumms actualy try to survive with 300-400 $ per month, or earn maybe even less, while often working all they long from early childhood, and dye from hunger. With 10000 per year, they would build castles, believe me.
Well, what to do with these poor sods from far Borneo, should we kill them all, in the name of God or is better to continue to use their 1$-per-day-work so we can buy cheap staff for almost nothing. I really do not know what one Christian should do with such people. Anyway what would Jesus do ? kill them all, misuse them, or give them all the best?
But do not worry, humans are not so willing to share with others what they have - so no need to be afraid, hardly will someone be able to press you (and others) to give your wealth to the others. No God, nor Jesus is not so cruel to require compassion from people....or people who say they are Christians actually do not belive in Christ at all.
New Earth full of equality was plan of Christ... Jesus obviously preached all wrong or completely in vain.

However, I will say that God told the Jews to destroy the Devil worshippers in their midst. They were aware of God for a long time and chose to worship Molech or Baal; they were Satanic cults. God said to get rid of all of them or they would influence some members of the future generations of Jews to love evil more than good, mostly through the inticement of their women.
While Christians read the Old Testament, there is no instance in our Covenant, the New Testament, which orders the killing or subordination of anybody. Islam certainly teaches subordination all the time and killing sometimes.
You are surely right that the Crusaders committed many atrocities. One should note however that the Crusades themselves were to recover land that had been taken from them in Conquest by Muslims in the first place; lands which were the most holy places to Christians and the Crusades themselves only began after Christian pilgrims trying to visit these shrines were robbed, killed, and raped by the score.
Thomas Jefferson did indeed write the quote you mention. The word 'priests' leads me to think he may have had some anti-Catholic sentiments, since Protestants don't have 'priests.' Given the history of European Catholicism, with its heavy political entanglements, I am not surprised. We all know that Jefferson's thoughts are all over the place. He also said:

Don Simkovich— I'm not sure it is the government's job to take care of the poor through a gigantic bureaucracy in Washington DC. I believe it is up to individuals who are able—and they'd be far more able if not for 50% tax confiscation—to take care of the poor they know or know of; and for each town or community (or maybe state and that's a big maybe) to take care of those with no friends and family. We as individuals and communities are charged with the care of widows, orphans, the disabled, and those temporarily down on their luck. There are manifold reasons why this is far superior to federal care of the poor. That would take an entire Hub to fully explain.
Socialism is a system born of Atheism. Not believing in God or Providence, "enlightened" intellectuals figured that Social Science can engineer human perfection. These ideas have proven to be a gross failure.
Sure, Socialists looking out at a landscape of the USSR, North Korea, East Germany, Cuba, et al. now claim if the whole world was Socialist it would work, i.e., if the USA and other Capitalist countries had not made them look so pitiful they wouldn't have BEEN perceived as so pitiful. Many authors criticize the idea that there exists an objective standard of social justice. Moral relativists deny that there is any kind of objective standard for justice in general. A fictional writing of events that could happen. Anything is possible, an outcome that nobody wants. Not even the illegals that are here now, imagine that.
James, I'd be glad to give you my take on the UN involvement in the US-sucinctly. The scripture references I sent you (way back) are key. But look at where the UN places troops-in countries that have suffered from civil war or from a war between two nation states. The troops are sent to 'bring order' or 'enforce peace' in these instances. Using the scenario described here by you, imagine the US DOES have a bloody civil war, except that during that civil war and the economic chaos some nations decide to settle a grudge, to complete their long desired conquest of the world for Communism; the US would become a devastaed battleground. This is when the UN might step in IMO.

And yes, Capitalism brought the world undreamed of prosperity, especially in the United States. Even the poor in the US have modern conveniences that the rich didn't have 100 years ago. The beef is not that we have people who are poor—not by any true sense of the word relative to world history or relative to peoples around the world. The issue is some people have more than others. Let's be honest, that's what the Socialist beef is.

This hub is dealing with a lot of the dishonesty of our country. VIETNAM was started by the Gulf of Tonkin lies.
The folks that really run this country are ruthless.
I think Obama may have a good heart. Whether he is good or not will not matter. His advisers will flub. The republicans will try their best to ruin his administration. The republicans will try to sabotage health-care. It's just what the parties do. The hell with America I love my party! And no- I'm not a liberal or whatever republicans want to label me as. But that's it- these political "cults" want to fight and argue and sabotage.
He cannot make changes for the better- if - he wanted to. The rulers will not allow it. As anyone can see from the comments- this country is divided. It's perfectly divided. Half are hating half!

I can see a day in my fantasy-land where the borders could be open. But not soon and not with the hate that is in this world. But with your ability and popularity comes a responsibility that I think you underestimate - that of making a positive contribution. And I do wonder what constitutes your regular reading matter, if you have such ready access to so many scurrilous images.

I'm far from a religious type but in our reality sometimes a bloodbath is the correct solution to permanently solve a problem. Otherwise it festers and grows out of control.
The same can be said for many past civilizations, empires, and countries - priest ridden or not. Yet others were good and fine. It's the duality of the reality of life. It's not a utopia.

But you don't need to be religious or priest ridden to honor and uphold good moral values. The point is to uphold what is right and (here's the tricky part) fair.

I think it's important to point out the term "Progressives" and its use in politics and society. There are certainly those who believe socialism is a much better and fair system than capitalism - and believe a socialist society is more equal. A friend of mine who is a university professor believes that socialism could not show its real benefits due to capitalism around the world . . . in other words, get rid of a capitalist system and have a socialist system worldwide . . . for further reading, and a url I was going to refer to for writing a future article, read redletterpress.org as one source of socialist apologetics. I think it's important to note that govt should take care of the poorest of the poor but I believe with so much being given to the middle class and public employees that the poor will actually suffer more.

A great hub and I know saying so will irritate Moonchild and Gatordad but so be it. It does make the future look bleak and it stands to reason it would upset a lot of people. Moonchild has some good points. All politicians lie, yes they do. I believe even Reagan lied upon occassion. Obama has only lied to those who voted for him. I don't know anyone whose mortgage is being paid yet. He is proposing change and on the outside to those who believe all capitalists have cheated their way to wealth it sounds good. Instead of believe we all want Bush back which we don't why not look into the results of the change being proposed. Not the Media's reporting, your own. What is Social Justice? Keep up the good work James. Perhaps with enough input we can change the outcome.

That includes not saying anyone who wishes to conserve what it good and true and beautiful in the world must hate and fear others. That is patent nonsense. There are absolutely people in America whom I can quote right now who want each of these ends I have described. That is a problem if they are given power. If they are in a closet idealizing that's OK.

In an ideal world—if the world was a movie say, and you could just write out a script and that's the way it would be—the ideas of Liberals are great! If a worldwide commune would work it'd be great! If everybody would just sit around a campfire and love everybody while singing "Kumbaya" it'd be great! But that is not the world. In reality if you rob people of incentive to better themselves "we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us" is the result. Good God Amighty!
John B— I don't think we can stop Iran. This is going to be a problem. I didn't lay out any solutions here. I have solutions. I suppose they would look largely like the opposite of this scenario.

Although there is a lot of truth in this story, I also don't believe that it will be that dark. I don't mean things may not get that bad, but as long as you and I are here (Christians and conservatives or defenders of individual freedom), there will be resistance. WW2 is littered with liberal ideals and yet God kept a people to defeat Hitler. Millions were gassed and it is a horrible and bleak time, but there were always those who fought the enemy. It will be like that too in our time. We'll find places to hide and fight from, politicians will also fight on their turf, as will religious people on theirs.
It's true that America is moving toward a progressive state, but only in science fiction is every single person subverted by progressive philosophy.
But the scariest part of your hub was when progressives controlled everything to such an extent that it forced people to compromise or starve. It's scary because it is true. They preach tolerance and peace, but their aim is obviously to control everything so they can dominate every individual.
This was not a pleasant read, but a much needed warning of what kind of waters we are heading into. (this was not quite as bleak as the movie "The Road" though, because if people are being persecuted, that means there are still people left who believe in true hope and freedom).
